should i run a special oil (maybe thinner?) for when first filling after a brand new oil pump install? should i change after 200 miles or so or is there any precauctions i should take?

I always used a conventional oil to break in new engine components...whatever you usually run should be fine. It won't hurt to change your oil, but it probably will be unnecessary if you only put in an oil pump. Good luck!

pre-lube or prime the engine BEFORE starting it!!
Remove spark plugs and fuel pump fuse. Crank until you see oil pressure.
Be sure NOT to crank more than 15 seconds or you WILL fry the starter.
As for oil weight, try using the same or thinner (cooler temps now)
