I have been looking at 240sx around this area (Nashville) for some time. I found a good condition 96 base at a dealership yesterday. Full power, no visible damage, ~117k miles, auto, asking $5500. Think it is a good deal, or would I be better to keep looking?

On a side note, I plan on swapping in an SR regardless.

i'd say get it, it sounds like a good deal

i once saw a 96 SE for sale in nashville with light front end damage, otehrwise very tight for $2600, guy sold it within a couple days...a good 240 is hard to come by in this state, or so it seems

i'd say it is good
cuz jus like mistert says... who knows when you'll see another one... no damage and the miles on alot of 95-96s are gonna be pretty high, actually depending on how the car was keep those aren't bad...
Bbandit you from the NY area? cuz i've noticed this area has to only have like 50 240sx for sale or owned, cuz its hard for me to find one for sale or see one on the road
lol luey you can sweat him on getting a auto, hahah if he is looking for a stick he may die trying...

ah i didnt even notice it was auto, if you wait a while you should find a manual at about the same cost, maybe a little bit lower. if you find it from somewhere else, or a private party, you can probably get an SE manual for that much...

then again, the manual conversion is reasonably straightforward and inexpensive for 240sx's

Buy an s13 with a blown engine, and swap in an sr20det. That's a better way to spend $5,500 <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I know its an auto, if I could find one that wasn't I wouldn't hesitate. As for SE, no can do. I need every bit of headroom I can get (I'm 6'3").

I have been looking for about three months, all the manuals I can find are beat to hell, most with major collision damage.

Yea, I know man.
Alot of cars around here are wreked. Nashville drivers suck ass. I guess RWD doesn't help much.
It's hard. I had too look for about 4 months. Oddly enough, I found my s13 at a dealership in Lebannon. A good drive from Franklin. There are ALOT more S13's than S14's here though.
Keep looking though, it will shape up.
Oh, and I found mine at Wheels and Deals (http://us.trader.com). They have weekly magaizines of Friday too.
Then try www.autotrader.com
Good luck,
Jeff
