whe looking for parts for my 240, I came across a performance shop with a 1992 Z32 300ZX (was NA) engine removed and replacement teested good and ready to drop in. after chatting with the guy he has 3 cars there (that one included that wsa the previous owners and now they do't have time to work on them.... to make a long story short, $1000 to get all the 300ZX car and parts off of his handt to make more room. what do you think? make a hell of a project car i am sorley tempted to get it, off the NA engine and go with the TT.
thinking drop the 98 240 and build the 300ZX

Depends on what your plans are with the car.
Daily driver? Track only weekend car?
Grossery (why does that look wrong to me?) getter?
Remember, 300zx is a 2 seater car, and is really tight on space. Even the 2+2 is really small on interior/storage space. Plus they're heavy.

Tenchuu, 300zx's are money pits. Parts are very expensive . Unless you really love them, you are better off playing with a 240sx financially. Plus your 240sx will out corner 300zx at lower speeds.

a 1K base car....... hard to say no to. off the 240 once it's all togather and have a good "spirited driveing car" for day to day use (whitch for me is fun speeds through twistie roads all ove in OR. and the insurance. costs $23/6months
altho the RB25 240 still has a certain ring to it. but it looks like i may have to take a guy i know/hung out with/trusted/lives in japan to court to get back my $7K plus in parts that i HAD/HAD HIM FIND for me while i was in japan. so it may take a while to get that back.
maby just toss in the NA motor and save the VGTT for another day... dunno front clip still costs 2K for the VGTT or 2.5K for the RB, but the RB is not a cut and dry swap (aka more parts to stockpile before getting the clip.

If you can afford the $1000 right now, get it, put it together, and drive it for a little while. Then decide. If you like it, keep it, if not, sell it for more than you paid.
(SoSideways, it looks so wrong because it is spelled grocery)

actually Tenchuu, besides getting a fuel pump you could basically run a bone stock RB install with the kit. About the only other thing you would need would be some kind of exhaust and flexalite fans. I got my Buddy Club Spec II exhuast slightly used for $200. You can used your stock S14 radiator as well. I think you overthought the stockpiling parts because you wanted to go the extra lenght i.e. Greddy intake ,FMIC etc.... but a lot of that stuff can be done later. The bone stock install would work and not put you more than $4400 back to get a running machine.
clip $2500
install kit 1000
wire service 300
fuel pump 90
dual flexalite 220
exhaust 200
extra's 100
now the thing is , your talking about buying a non running 300zx chassis for 1k and then adding in the cost of the TT clip 2k . your still not dealing with a easy install . I know people that have done non TT to TT installs its alot of work . I also feel there are probably hidden expenses your not accounting in it.
Plus it is true 300zx's are not easy to work on. Nothing is easily accessable like 240sx's. Thats why you see the overall value of the cars down . NA's have no value TT's have value but there expensive to maintain. I think your best off staying with your 240sx and going towards a dream with it. Plus you will get better mileage with the 240sx even with a RB in it, because its lighter and the torque of the RB will allow to drive it at lower rpms thereby saving gas.
I also think you won't be happy with how it handles after being use to driving a 240sx.

If you DO get the Z, don't put anything VG in it.
Put in an SR, or an RB, hell even a rotary. ANYTHING but a VG.
You'll thank me later.
The engines are a bitch to work on and the whole engine/chassis combo is gonna hemorrhage money from your wallet.
At least with an SR or RB, you'll be able to work on the motor in a relatively easy fashion.

i dont know about in california, but here is nebraska 300zx's go for like $6,000-9,000, so fixing it and selling it might be worth it. again this depends on the location and local prices.

The Z was a great car in the early 90's for Nissan...but I'll personally do a daily driver or show car. Speedoption has one featured this month on their site.

OK option 3 but the z, scavange any parts i want off of it (ie bigger brakes, stack alloys?? maby just sell those, e-brake setup, tie rods, extra MAF to sell, open to suggestions of what i can canabilize off of a full Z32 for a 240, Hit me up with anyhting else you know of) and then sell the 2 motors/transmissions, and either sell to junk yard, or part out what's left to Z guys and take to junk yard.
sound like i could come out even or close???

You know what? That is the best idea, you lay out 1k to get the car and an engine that runs, look through the Z guys for someone looking for one, sale the wheels and brakes will go to guys around here for a premium, like the tie rods, Brake MC, seats, shift knob, MAF. God, you could make a killing on that thing parting it out, then selling body parts on a Z forum and dropping the remainder off with a junkyard.

yeah i just was going over this with drift freaq on the phone as a decent idea, it may work.
exactly, give myself first pick and off the rest then to the junk yard. oh and i t comes with 2 engines and transmissions, so sell them both, or just off hte good one and give the bad one to the junk yard. you can use the hubs for a 5 lug conversion right?? people are always looking for those. (or swap the hubs to my car with the brakes and sell my 5 lug hubs)
only problem is storage, it would cost me $200 to keep it at the auto shop on the base that i live on for a month, but that includes all the tools i would need to completely dissamble the car too. then there's the car dolly to get it there..... maby i can talk the guy down to 800 :)
how about the diff? is the diff any good in those?

What's funny is that I used to own a Z32 TT, which I sold to a friend of mine for like $2k since it had a bad motor (low compression on all cylinders), turbos that were rebuilt but werent balanced so they ate themselves, and a crapped out auto tranny.
When I sold it to him, I jacked all the good stuff that I wanted out of it. MAF, MAF wiring, front brakes, and my Nismo rad cap.
Right before I sold it to him though, I was gonna do a tranny swap on it, and had acquired a tranny, the shifter for it, master and slave cylinders, and was just waiting on money for driveshaft, pedals, and clutch/flywheel.
After I sold the car to him, I sold the tranny too :duh:
Who woulda thunk that 1.5 years later they're gonna be the upgrade for the SR/KA guys? :rl:

Only if you're medium build. And only if they're cloth.
Mine were black leather, and I'm pretty skinny (was 125 lbs, now I'm 155 lbs, but all in the gut), so I was still moving around, not getting hugged by the seat, so when I cornered hard, I would slide around in the leather seat.
Plus they're heavy as fawk, seeing as the driver's seat is a power seat. Buddy of mine was gonna throw his Z32 seats into his brother's S13, and they scrapped the whole project as it was not worth it.

hehehhehehhehe, hahhahha , ya if you chop it up and throw it in a truck you can even take it to a metal recycler who will pay you for the scrap like 10 cents on the pound. Do the math hahahha you will make money there as well.
