Hello,

I am trying to find the lightest seat possible for a reasonable price. I know Bride (as well as many other companies) offer very light weight seats for well over 1000 dollars. I looking for a seat in the 3-450 dollar range with a little flexibility in price. I know there is a seat guide...I did search...but the guide talks about seat clearance not weight. If you guys know of a thread on here and want to tell me to search...I'll do it, sorry if I am wasting a thread, I thought I searched well enough.

Thanks
Stephen

It's for a Pro-Stock Drag car though. Find a seat that fit's you best, and holds you tight. This isn't an area I would personally skimp on when it comes to just finding the lightest one I can. There are plenty of other places you can save weight. A seat should save your ass, not a few lbs.

is weight savings that important?

pretty much any bucket seat made from FRP, CF, etc will be light enough that you will not notice a difference between either material.

signal auto's bucket in FRP and CF weighs the same (~negligible difference) and chargespeed is the same way.

and if you're talking about spending $300-400 dollars on a seat, then you don't have much room to be picky. if you had recaro carbon kevlar dough, then yes, maybe. and also, lighter doesn't necessarily mean better, so keep that in mind as well.

like mainevent said, you have either:

signal auto
chargespeed
buddy club

you could also get tube frame sparcos, but the FRP shells would be lighter.

if you want i can go weigh the buddy club when i get in the office tomorrow. i think we also have some recaro spg, ill weigh against that too.

if i were you id get the seat that fits you best and scrape off some sound deadening to make up for the "weight difference" :)

I had a Momo Start at one point. It is one of the lightest. 11.5lbs if I remember correctly.

my sparco sprint weighed in at a clean 16 lbs when i used my home scale

i really dont think it's a huge deal

i can make up that difference between TheSnail's Momo seat and my Sparco in body weight in one day

I have a question that pertains to seats, but isn't too far off from the topic at hand to warrant its own thread.

So here goes:

How are the Buddy Club or the Signal Auto buckets against the Chargespeed bucket in FRP as far as rigidity goes? And also the cushion for your ass?

I've sat in the Chargespeed bucket, which fit me pretty snug (I actually wanted more snug from that seat with more cushion for my back and shoulder, and hip), but the problem is, it was kinda flexy. I could flex the seat side to side just by leaning a little bit (not too too much flex, but I felt it), so I'm kinda wondering how are the Buddy Club and Signal Auto seats in the flexing department?

Do they flex as much or not as much?

Thanks.

Good idea, for those who are anal about flexing in a CF or FG seat, get a kirkey racing seat. MIG and TIG welded seat, should not flex at all, and just get the road racing version since it has alot of padding. If you still don't like the padding, add more. That's why sparco and bride have those accessory pads you can use to tailor the seat to how you want it to feel and support you.

+1 for buddy club. Got mine used, local pickup for $300 (wide version is about $15-40 bucks more depending on store).

i think it weighs like 13 lbs.

Ditto on the lightweight not mattering much, the RAILS are the heavy part, and you can't change that. The difference from seat to seat is what, a couple pounds? 5 at most probably? This isn't rotational or unsprung weight, if you wanted to save weight, go on a diet

Well, if you think about it, if you remove weight from the top of the car to the bottom of the car, then you can keep the center of gravity lower and thus make the car handle a little better.

However, we're not talking about alot of weight here, so it's not really a problem.

Does anyone know if Sparco buckets in FRP has the flex that the Chargespeed or Buddy Club or Signal Auto seats have?

I'm just curious, but from watching WRC races, it seems to me that their carbon/kevlar seats don't flex at all :)

Thanks Saizoku ^ :)

Buddy Club small weighs 14 lbs, and so does an authentic Recaro SPG.

Sparco (Evo, Pro2000, etc) flexes less versus the entry level seats.

I can't really fit in the Buddy Club small so I can flex it back and forth to compare, but when I get in the Buddy Club wides I'll give my review.

I've never weighed the Chargespeed or Signals exactly, but the CF and FRP versions were the same weight when shipped out so I assume no difference.

:werd: Thanks guys...I am asking about weight mainly out of curiosity. I know a couple of pounds aren’t a big deal. Since everyone is +1 the Buddy club and Charge Speed seats I assume those are comfortable as well? I will do some research on it, thanks for all the responses.

For me, I wanted more cushion around my shoulder, back, and hip area from the Chargespeed seat, and definitely more cushion for my ass (it felt like I was sitting on a towel).

If there's a seat that has similar dimensions as the Chargespeed but has more cushion everywhere, I'm nabbing that bad boy up...

My ghetto ass sparco ultra weighs in at 15 lbs, and I got it for $350 new online a couple of years ago. FIA Approved Competition seat.

I never could comfortably fit in the tiny Japanese Buddy Club and Chargespeed seats i sat in. They didn't offer enough leg width, so your nuts would be smashed together.

I weant with the European designed sparco, since I am a bigger guy and this seat fits me nice and snug, and with the nice cloth pattern I can't remember ever getting sweaty ass from sitting in this seat in the summer with no AC
