I have a set 215/50/17 tires and I'm thinking about using it on 17x9 rims but I dont know if it worth using the tires. IMO, the tires will stretch alot and it prolly not safe so I wanna hear your thoughts. If you have any pix of the same setup or 215/45 on 9" wide, please post them so I can see how it looks. Thanks

A lot of people do 215/45/17 on a 9" wide wheel. 215/50/17 should be fine but I would prefer a lower profile. Here's a pic of my car with 215/45/17 on 17x9.

yeah 215/50 would be WAAAY too tall
go w/ the 215/45 if you want meaty, if you want the lowest possible static height, do a 215/40

I'm runnin' a 245/45/17 on my 9" wide wheel. The fronts are 225/45/17 and they stretch a decent amount.
Why would you want stretch anyway, too poor to get tires that fit on a large width wheel? If you're going to run 215's just use some 7" wheels, don't be a hardparker...
215-40-17 on a 9inch wide fnorkle . sorry i dont have better pics
In this first pic the tire laying on the ground to the left is a 214-45-17, but the top view of the tire tread is 215-40-17

why is it hardparking because i like to have good turnin response and less sidewall flex?

Sorry for a little threadjack here, but:
What is the advantage of running a streched tire? I usually only see drifters do this, is it beneficial for drifting? How about other forms of racing (eg. drag)?
sidewall flex is deminished
-sharper turn ins
-smoother transitions
-stiffer ride (floppy sidewalls give what feels and acts like body roll)
Hmm, nice. I'm gonna look into that. I think it looks real nice, but isn't there a risk of bending your wheels? I couldn't imagine driving like that on the street with all these potholes. I would think that another advantage for drifters is that the tire is cheaper, which is good cause they go through many tires in drifting.
eh, they're not really any cheaper as i would use the same size tires on an 8" wide rim too

The difference in price isn't that much, it's not like a $20-30 difference per tire. BTW 215/50 is too friggin' tall. I hate it, I can't wait to trade or get some 215/45s or 215/40s. Risk of bending wheels from potholes, easy cure. Watch the road and don't act like OE suspension plowing over obstructions. Besides you can bend a rim no matter what size of the tire if you drive over something improperly. Stretching is also related to a form of style, typically associated in and around drifting, along with the changes in handling due to a tire being stressed. Remember the form of stretch differs per type of tire due to shape and compound.
