you should have stopped at the end of the spokes and left more of the lip unpainted

a few things:
-same thing you ALWAYS do to paint stuffL clean, sand, clean, scuff, clean basecoat, clearcoat. its not rocket science.
-black is better (got the idea from the corvette grand sport wheel)
-duplicolor ceramic engine enamel gloss black and clear coat
-i did it right where i should have... since thats where i want it :)

Brad, not that I don't semi-agree with what you said, but you might want to hang around Zilvia a little while longer before you start picking fights. Thanks.

Oh come on now Makoto, I expect better from you than to stoop as low to start using homosexual slang as an insult.
On a side note to anyone wanting a 5 lug spare, find one from a 3rd gen rx7. Those things are so light they subtract weight from your car.
oh shit, a Makoto thread! Better shit on it immediately for no reason!!!

like i said, its a spare so not much effort went into prep. i also shot it outside in the carport with the wind blowing so it has just enough clear to get it glossy.

seriously, what would happen here without me? you'd get a flat and mess up a pretty painted SE wheel.

fyi, the FD wheel is 16x8 +50
Yes, it's light as fuck (like most things rx7), but I'm not sure how any 240 could conceivably run that.

I agree. Alot of drag Fd's use a pair of stock spares for the front. Very light weight, they are yellow 20spoke rims made by Enki. I thought about it for a while, but never botherd to try to fit them since I would think they are 50+ offset, and no way in hell would clear 300zx brakes. Kind of ironic, I heard my brother pull up last weekend, went outside and he an fd spare in the trunk. I asked him if he tryed fitting them. He said no, then I walked back inside.
Ps, nice paint job Wholly Man, you have much more patients then me.

precisely. lets say im goin to dallas and i have a blowout in the back. i just mount this hoe and continue on my merry way AND we know it clears Z brakes AND it just plain looks cool in my trunk.

AAA won't tow a car from Chicago to Iowa for free, and at 9pm on a Sunday no one is going to repair/replace a tire. :fawk:
I'm sure other people have been in similar situations.
BTW, the RX7 wheels with a thick spacer might work alright, but getting them flush would take a huge spacer. Definitly no brake clearance issues though!

10-24-2005, 08:33 PM
Yeah what the shit....A 3rd gen spare would definitely clear z brakes noting 3rd gen brakes are larger than 300zx's equipment
theicecreamdan
10-24-2005, 10:03 PM
they probably have very different offsets on the rotors though, thus being able to fit an outer space offset

Wrong. FD wheels (spare or not) don't come close to clearing Z brakes. Your point is also horribly inaccurate, Supra brakes are huge as well but they're also a completely different location width wise from the wheel.
The early Z32s also used an aluminum spare, that's the one to get, though IIRC it was only in 1990. Dealer list on one is over $500 last time I checked.

Right after I typed it I thought to myself "what about brake spacing?" then ignored the thought. Whoops!

I forgot about clearance for the spare, when I upgraded to Z32 brakes. I have a Z31 collapsable spare. Does anyone know if it would clear Z32 brakes on an S14?
