has anyone hardwired a passport x50 or v1 in their 240? I just ordered my x50 and when it gets here, i'm planning on hardwiring it and relocating the "smart cord" circuit to somewhere in the car....maybe the coin holder things in the center console next to the power window motor switches. for clarity, these audi guys made a cool write up, i'll make something similar if anyone wants to see it posted...hardwire install 1 (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec102.shtml) or another, hardwire install 2 (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec104.shtml)
let me know what you guys think, I havent seen one yet in a 240, but the audi and bmw guys are all over it :yum:

If you are not confident in your abilities order the direct wire kit from Escort themselves. I do this type of work everyday and while I see what the guys on your link are doing, I would just prefer to get the hardwire(directwire) kit directly from escort-much easier, cleaner, and quicker. Also, by doing this it allows you to keep your other cord incase you need to temporarily use your radar in another car (rental, girl's car, etc.). Just my $.02, but I believe this is the best way. Check out their site Escortradar.com for the directwire kits.

personally I prefer a remote system like a K40 www.k40.com which also allows you to eliminate the main radar detector unit from your dash

actually, I was thinking of taking my smart cord apart, then making the circuit myself in the lab for one of my ece classes :wiggle: instead of paying 25ish dollars for the direct wire kit...I dunno what i'll end up doing, but I didnt plan on actually using the included smart cord as a hardwire. Has anyone thought of a good place to mount the interface in an s14 tho? I didnt really see any place that would be good, I guess i'll just have to get really creative to make it look clean.
And it would be nice to not have the detector on teh window, but I already bought the passport x50, so i'll have to make the best of it....

Looks harder than it really is to hardwire a radar detector. You're basically just extending wires.
Mines not an escort, but here are the only pics i have where you can see it

and you can't really see it from the outside

when i got mine i was jsut gonna wire it to a switch panel with a few other goodies goin to it. the only thing i'm undecided on is where to mount the detector so that its effectiveness isn't compromised.
i like the bluetooth design...

the previous owner of my car had the radar detector mounted between the sunvisor and the headliner
cant see it from outside and its still in my field of vision
