View Full Version : DA Performance DOESNT SUCK!

Just they stopped selling to the public. They have a deal with Enjuku Racing to sell their stuff for them. So the products themselves can't suck.
But anyway. I ordered the Do It Yourself kit from them. A couple snags along the way, but I am really pleased with the service and proptness of their replies. I was gettin emails at 2 am and replying, and getting another email at like 3am.
They ran out of the correct exhaust housings for the T3/4, so they sent my turbo with a huge housing, .84 a/r, and said I could keep it, and they would send the correct one when it gets to them from Turbonetics. I also bought a oil line kit from them. They even prebent the hydraulic lines, and I only have to make one bend to turn in into the turbo.
The only snags were: They forgot a couple pieces of the oil lines, and apologized and said they'd ship it with the exhaust housing, and they didn't include instructions, which they apologized again and said it would be in the box with the rest of the stuff.
So, just wanted to let you guys know, after a lot of DA Performance bashing, I went with them, and am happy about it.

well, it's probably just the way they go about things (such as being a big self-promoting company on a certain couple forums) that ticks me off... that and one of their reps just denying the laws of physics almost completely.....

Could you elaborate on this?
And don't other companies go on forums and promote themselves too? Like Yury has, LostProjects does, Joel from Unstable-Hybrids does...
I'm not saying its wrong, but it seems like a good business practice. And I am just playing Devils Advocate here.

Hey Jeff was the install easy? I was thinking about buying a kit from them since when I looked at their address they are basically just 1 mile down the road from me. When i drove by and there was an S13 sitting out in the drive way, eventhough it was just a house but oh well.

Yeah, everybody promotes themselves on forums at first it seems. Nothing wrong with it IMO as long as they don't over do it or lie or anything.
DAperformance came across as bad from the start.
I'm glad your happy with them, and supprised you took the risk.
DAperformance said that stock exhaust works better than an aftermarket exhaust on an N/a engine. His claim is that you may gain 10hp peak but lose more than 10 hp down low so you end up being slower. We all know you lose a little low end but not 10hp (i've seen dyno's) and who actually uses low end anyway? Once you've passed 4k rpm for the 1st time you usually try not to see it again...

It goes beyond just the exhaust.... there was a discussion on the zilvia tech board a while back about turbos, and a few other instances of mechanical mis-knowledge on Nicos. Well, that and we've never like companies with multiple personalities in the first place. That aside, i feel as though their self promotion (mostly on Nicos as I remember, but maybe i'm wrong) hasn't been with much of a contribution to the boards as useful, where other companies have only been promoted through their innovations and through customers that aren't just made up names that only post in promotion of said company... but like i said, maybe i'm wrong.

I think the whole debate before was on 2 fronts.
ONE: They got flamed for calling their barebones turbo kit a "kit". People were upset because DA didnt include everything needed for a "proper" setup for the price listed. Its like how Sony Playstation will sell you the console, but not include the FM modulator to use it on your old tv, or include a memory card. People would ASSUME it was plug-and-play out of the box...only to be pissed they had to buy other parts to make it work...thus raising the overall price.
this was tied in closely with the second point,
TWO: They tried to say that 16-ish lbs boost was possible without fuel pump and injector upgrades......on a T25 turbo. The setup they were talking the 16lbs smack about just happned to be the entry level "kit" they were selling. Thats why people were pissed......selling people on the idea of 16lbs of boost on a T25 at their low price.

Im sorry, it is .84 A/R. Just looked at my turbo.
But anyway, what the hell is that number representing? And why am I downsizing to a .50 a/r?
I just don't quite understand the letters and numbers on turbos.
And yeah, I guess that 16 psi is a lot, but it is a t25. No too much goin on in that turbo after 12 psi, except a lot of heat. And 12 psi is what, in CFM outta that little puppy? I bet at 9 psi from a t4 you'd be pushing the same ammount of air as a t25 at 12-14psi, and stock internals can handle 9psi with fuel upgrades. They might be on to something there.
Their website at daperformance.com is not used anymore, hence, not updates. They use a tripod site, and if someone really wants it, i'll pm it to ya.
That whole exhaust thing is just a retarded thing to say to people.
And they didn't call it a "complete kit", but rather, a "kit". I bought that. And I feel that it saved me a lot of hassle, because I didn't have to buy stuff that I didn't want. Like.. I don't want MSD injectors on my car, so the FMax kit gives me injectors that I wouldn't use. And now they give FMUs, rather than the JWT ecu. Well.. I dont want an FMU either. I really liked buying a barebones setup, and customizing it with my plethora of hks and tial products.
