you want the 1.8t. i have known several people with them. suprisingly seem to be quite problematic. hope yours goes well for you.

oh yeah, a local guy dynoed his stage 2 jetta 1.8t last week. 250hp and like 302 torque. that engine is a torque monster.

My friend has a APR Stage 3+ GTI with the 1.8T over 300whp. Those 1.8T can handle some boost. As far as reliability, good luck. Audi/VW have some really bad reliability problems.

first thing to do on that car (1.8T) is to get a chip for it, the best bang for your buck :)

DTM = Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft = German route cars championship = german (european) touring car championship.
EDM = Euro Domestic Market, IE JDM, USDM, CDM. EDM is rather broad though. GDM is closer to home. since more specifically VW's world headquarters is in Wolfsburg Germany. :wiggle:

DTM= Deutschen Tourenwagen Masters. It's like JGTC. DTM style is emulating the style of the race cars.
EDM=European Domestic Market. doesn't make sense...
GDM or DDM= German or Deutsch Domestic Market is the Ideal term for German spec. cars.

USDM is what we drive here. Don't use the gheyDM terms...

First step is to get rid of that K04. http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release041205.htm

most likely im going to get a 2.8, since thats what i get a hook up on :)

however, a s/c will be tossed on their no doubt, with a quickness

2.8 v6 is a not so good dealy and does not have much aftermarket support. I dont think they made the vr6 in Quattro

2.8 V6 quattro. the only other engine option for the B5. not to be confused with the VR6. :naughty:

Yea my mom's B5 2.8 quattro really isn't too quick. The 1.8t is definitely the faster engine.

BTW 1.8t's are only torque monsters because they use tiny ass turbos. We pulled one off a B5 at a local shop and all got a good laugh out of the size of the compressor housing.

Let me post this again: http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release041205.htm

Also the 3.0 is $5k more than the 1.8T.

M3 > Quattro

GDM all the way!

And my friend had the 2.8 Audi, slow as a dog. 1.8T for the win.

yeah thats what I was trying to get at...That v6 is poopy. The vr6 isnt to great either but it has loads more aftermarket support than the v6. Thanks for confirming for me that the vr6 was not available in b5's though =)

Yea deff A4, my personal is the S4, its tuned to about 320 awhp here and puts lots of fun down mostly for the mountains we go to snowboard or what not. But the 1.8 it a good motor i do know a buddy who bored his 1.8 to a 2.0 i believe, i would have to talk to him. But the 2.8 is really crappy, im not saying the motor, but just the support of the motor, little to non mods for it. I would really wait for a 1.8 if your going to buy a A4, its really worth it. You will see when you drive the both.

Let me know if you need any more info my friend is very knowlageble and you can talk to him if you would like.

m3 = not AWD so doesnt work so well for what is needed here

just buy an old scooby wagon you can pawn off in early spring. be done with it. the cheaper the better. you're wasting your time paying money for a B5 A4. unless you're buying one in great condition, and are willing to maintain it to a "T", i wouldnt bother. i have considered the same car for the same reasons as you in the past. if i get a 4wd, it will be an old ass jeep. good luck though.

I'd rather take the bus with a bus-full of AIDS infected naked rape convicts than drive a VW.

let me clarify. the m3 is better than a lot of cars. (back to original topic)

try out both a4's.

ok

a. i plan to get ane46 m3 sooner than later

but not for a winter car

b. im buying a used a4 and the 2.8l quattro is a much better deal (for me)

c. if i get a 1.8t its going to be 2001 or newer and old lady driven, but why do i need two turbo cars?

d. its a really good deal otherwise id be getting a 2 door suv 4x4 :)

have to chime in here. A friend of mine has a 2.8 B5 is a POS. He race the shit out of it of course, and after every run it had a MAD valve ticking noise. The engine has less that 40k on it and was regurally maintained by the local Audi dealership. Eventually that engine blew up and he had it replaced with another 2.8 with arround 25k miles. Drove fine and after the swap he ended up stopping racing the car. One day after getting off the freeway the power steering pully sheared off and cut through a main harness. He ended up selling the car for $6k, a 11k loss from about 1.5 years ago when he bought it. VW's are all pos's, but the 2.8 in that car is extraspecialcrap! Have fun with it if you decide to get it, but thats just my personal expirence.
