i knew this been discussed like million times and i done search, but most of the old threads pictures are gone. As i read previous post, people said there are two top chain guide? one is at top and one is at top right? I think i only had the top center one (91ka24de with 195k miles). here is my picture and i just want to confirm with you guys before i toss it.

also, is the valve cover bolts are easily to striped? i am scare to tight it too tight because i dont want to strip it.

3rd question is that i only have to put sealant gasket over the cam plug place? (i dont konw what is the name, the half circle thing in the front of motor). I thought you suppose to put the gasket over at each corners.

thanks for help

You have both, you just haven't gotten to the other one yet. The top guide is labeled correctly, throw it away. Don't put the bolts back in either like some fools do.
The upper guide is behind the upper timing cover, about where the distributor shaft resides. You should go ahead and pull it while you're in there.

thanks for response. you mean another chain guide is under the valve cover? (if not, where is the upper timing cover)? Also i am wondering is valve cover screw strip easily? also why not put the upper chain guide bolts back?

thanks alot

you need to pull the distributor

then pull the front timing cover (its the metal cover that is under your little text bubble about gaskets)

the second chain guide will be on the right

Make sure when your in there to check your tensioner. It will be on the left side. Might as well check and/or replace it, if you have to. Since you already have the cover off.

Those half-circle things are included in a new v.c. gasket. Get one from your local dealer or checkers, advance, ect.

Valve cover and timing cover are two entirely different things, otherwise they'd both be called a valve cover. The timing cover is right in front of you, verify in the FSM if you're confused.
There are no screws in the valve covers, they're bolts, and they don't strip 'easily' but they can strip it overtorqued. Use common sense when tightening them and follow the correct sequence when doing so.

Torque specs are ONLY 6-8lbs, they dont just keep going, they bottom out, so if you keep cranking, it will yank out the threads. Im in that boat, they guy that owned it before me was a tool.

When putting the Gasket on set it on top of the block first because if you try to install it with it inside of the Valve cover and you put the RTV on it you wont be able to get it underneath the stuff on the fire wall because of the half circles with RTV wont fit without scraping off on the cams. They should of kept the half circles seperate from the gasket now you have to set the Valve cover on top of the gasket and make sure it sits in the valve cover gasket track.

thanks for the response, but do you mind to rephase it? it is quite confuse to read it.

i had a 93 SFM CD but it is a slightly different from 91. Also at which section can i find the torque spec?

also can someone explain to me more about removal of distributor? how do i set the timing ..etc.

once again, thanks for clear up my confusion.

Just put the Gasket on the head first then set the vavle cover on top of it.
Here is a link to fix your timing chain and take out your distributor.

Set at TDC, remove distributor. The 91-93 FSMs are all identical in regards to the EM section.
