It's not a negative comment, but maybe you should try to use google or yahoo search engines?

First and foremost, you should read this:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

It has a basic description of the LSDs you are talking about. When people here refer to "LSD", they usually mean the clutch-type variation (info can be found on the 6th or so page of the website above).

Please learn to search before postion about the mechanics of basic car parts. Once you know their function, you can refine your search with more specific terms.

WEE!!! More noobs that have inferior searching skills.

VLSD runs on viscous fluid, locking up when warmed.

LSD runs on clutch/gears. Upon increased torque, it locks up.

Torsen types, helical types, viscous types, weldicous types.

Out of all types, weldicious are the best. :wiggle:

As stated in other posts:
Open < VLSD/Weld < LSD

Technically a welded diff isn't a LSD because it isn't Limited Slip. It's completely locked. :fawk:

Yeah...when you go to make a U-turn...your tires will screech, LSD's won't.
Welded diff = Po' man's "LSD" =)

Yeah...when you go to make a U-turn...your tires will screech, LSD's won't.

THATS NOT TRUE.... A 2-WAY LSD WITH HIGH BREAKAWAY TORQUE WILL ACT LIKE A LOCKED DIFF AND MAKE YOUR TIRES SQUEAL.

THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT LSDS WITH PROS AND CONS TO EACH.

HLSD: HELICAL STYLE (TORSEN, QUAIFFE, ATB, ETC.) ALLOWS MORE WHEEL SLIPPAGE BUT ALLOWS FOR BETTER TURN-IN AND A REDUCTION IN SNAP OVERSTEER UNDER MID CORNER LOAD. THIS IS OPERATED THROUGH HELICAL CUT GEARS.... IT USES A SUN GEAR WITH FOR ROTATIONAL PLANET GEARS

VLSD: VISCOUS LSD (NISSAN STOCK) ALLOWS FOR INCREASE WHEEL SLIP BEFORE ENGAGEMENT BUT THE BEST COMPROMISE BETWEEN STREETABILITY AND PERFORMANCE. THIS USES A VISCOUS FLUID BETWEEN CLUTCH PLATES THAT IS HEATED THROUGH SHEARING FORCE. ONCE THIS FLUID IS HOT ENOUGH IT BECOMES DENSE AND STICKY GRABBING THE CLUTCH PLATES AND LOCKING THEM TOGETHER.

CLSD: MOST COMMON CLUTCH STYLE (NISMO, POWERBRUTE, TOMEI, KAAZ, ETC.) HAS THE LEAST SLIPPAGE AND MOST CONTROL OF LOCK-UP. THIS STYLE USES CLUTCHES SANDWHICHED BETWEEN PRESSURE PLATES (LIKE A MULTIDISC CLUTCH) THAT HAVE NOTCHES IN THEM... WHEN THESE CLUTCH PACKS TURN IN AN OPPOSING DIRECTION THE NOTCHS INTERLOCK MAKING THEM ROTATE IN UNISON. THESE SETUPS ARE THE MOST ADJUSTABLE ALLOWING FOR 1, 1.5, OR 2 WAY ENGAGEMENT AND VARIOUS BREAKAWAY TORQUES.

I'm DAMN sure if i were to have searched, i would have answered my own question. Some people just suck at searching, and give up, expecting Zilvians to spoon feed them. AND this question is covered basically WEEKLY! Now if the original poster would have taken HIS 5 minutes from his nooobish day to properly search, we wouldn't have this conversation. So let me reiterate and regurgitate this.

It is limited slip! No slip at all!!! :wackit: WELDICOUS TYPES!!!

And while it is ghetto, it gets the job done, and most people pushing welded diffs swear by its awesomeness on the track. Daily sucks with it.

would you rather answer a specific question and recieve the exact answer....or try to dig through many pages of shit that just beats around the bush....

man I wish this place was back to what it used to be :sadwavey:

with a question as common as the difference between VLSD and LSD, it's a bit annoying..

HOWSTUFFWORKS.COM has all kinds of info and if he would have google'd it or even tried searching Zilvia with the tiniest bit of thinking, he would have found it

we aren't here to hold people's hands and introduce them all to the basics, time after time after time

I know this isn't the best and friendliest car community, but the original poster didn't even know the difference between LSDs. This is just basic information that really does not belong in the tech talk forum, and the reason I posted the Howstuffworks link was to show him how easy it is to use google.

And his question is specific, but it is extremely basic. The information he is looking for is not easy to find on Zilvia because it is practically common sense knowledge to a the average performance car owner.

I really don't mind helping at all, but people do have to think for themselves. It's like starting a math problem, trying the basic steps to solve it then give up on the first try.

For those who have had a college experience, it's like going to your professor's office hours and saying, "teach me everything there is to know about ______." It's extremely more effective to learn about the topic yourself, then, when you have specific questions, go to office hours.

In this case, if he found a more specific question about LSDs, the search function becomes very effective. (i.e. terms like "clutch LSD", "vlsd swap")

I prefer doing the search, and rummaging through pages and pages of useful information. Its a REALLY good way of learning, besides hands on. You pick up useful information, get the answer you wanted, learn a bunch of new things, AND not waste bandwidth. 2 Birds with one stone.

Should i really bring up fishing again?

Synopsis on why small penis syndrome pri<€s like ur self shouldn't take the oppourtunities to roast "newbs" on silly questions in a effort to make up for being picked on so much in highschool. This sight gets popular and indirectly makes the creator money( which helps him/ she keep it goin which indirectly fuels all of our passions)by proofing the entire online community with more and more real world accurate information a
On drifting and what it's all about, from hands on direct responses of indirect responses from loosers who mentally copy and paste info from D1 magazine on here thought their free user name... Which is prolly not far from the exact character type I would pin ur condicenting self as... So keep ur negative and demeaning comments To ur self sir and just simply atick to the Age oldsayinf... If u don't "have n e thing gol to say, just do t say it!" anehatbi said did some good by helping u not run off newbs that contribute to the over all growth of the sport on the long run ;)

Five years later I found this thread too! Only I'm not drunk; but hey still funny. So how about a joke I didn't come up with?

---

A man walks into a bar and orders three beers.

The bartender brings him the three beers, and the man proceeds to alternately sip one, then the other, then the third, until they're gone.

He then orders three more and the bartender says, "Sir, I know you like them cold, so you can start with one, and I'll bring you a fresh one as soon as you're low."

The man says, "You don't understand. I have two brothers, one in Australia and one in the Ireland. We made a vow to each other that every Saturday night, we'd still drink together. So right now, my brothers have three beers, too, and we're drinking together."

The bartender thinks it's a wonderful tradition, and every week he sets up the guy's three beers. Then one week, the man comes in and orders only two. He drinks them and then orders two more. The bartender says sadly, "Knowing your tradition, I'd just like to just say that I'm sorry you've lost a brother."

The man replies, "Oh, my brothers are fine -- I just quit drinking."
