With a pair of new SPL t/c rods, the cornering carries more momentum and seems to be more accurate at high speed. But I still have free play on the front wheels.
How can I get rid of this free play on the front wheels. When I turn the steering more than 90 degrees, wheel follows the input about 1/3 second later.

wheel bearing? Loose rods and ends? fucked LCA? Check out your entire front suspension, EVERYTHING!!!

Yeah. Check every bushing. What kind of tires do you have?

you are always going to have a certain delayed amount of input time, with a stock steering rack. That is why, some of us covet Super Hicas front steering racks. The Stock racks ratio is wide, roughly 17:1 vs the Hicas rack ratio of 13:1 . If you have ever driven a Hicas car, you will notice immediately . The wheels responds instantanously to steering wheel input. You can pull much tighter u turns and whatnot as well. I have shocked other 240 owners when I have shown this to them.
In other words you can clean up some of the slop in your steering, but you will never get rid of that delay time. Unless you get a Hicas steering rack :D

any way to make it work on s14, since they never came w/ hicas?

Steering ratio seems pretty important from what i've read; in comparos of STi and EVO, you see that they have such similar equipment but the EVO always comes out on top as the driver's car and one reason consistently noted is the steering, ..STI is 16xxx to EVO's 13xxx i think, evo much quicker and better feel.

I haven't driven enough cars to compare myself, though.

I believe the s13 racks work in the s14 but you have to use the s13 steering rack bushings.

I felt like worn tie rod end would have been the problem along with other worn bushings. But steering rack never came into my mind. Well, at least good to know...

My tires are hankook h405 215/45 on 17 inch rims with 7.5 in width.

Purveyors of Beans and Candy.

If you're rich, upgrade the entire front suspension.
If you're smart, isolate the problem, replace it.
