My car had an idling problem so we advanced the timing a little bit. The car runs a lot faster and much smoother. Do I risk my engine to detonation? What are the effects of advanced timing? By the way it's a sr20det redtop.TIA

a little advance isnt bad, but alot could cause detonaiton. id just make sure to run 91 if your not already. someone might mentions a knock sensor, but they basically are usefull for sensing knock above 3k rpm.

Take a timing gun and let us know what
mark is it on now.

What's full advance? Did you advance the distributor 1 tooth and then advance it until it wouldn't idle, and then backed it off a bit?
