ok i was being dumb and forgot to tighten the lug nuts on my car and the wheel came off. the bolts that hold up the tension rods and sway bar came off.

upon closer inspection, the threads inside the chassis are jacked up. like theres nothing to put the bolts on anymore. what should i do? can you even rethread that part of the car? any help is appreciated. thnks

a shop can probably cut that section out and weld in a new threaded body. I'm not sure if theres a block or something there to thread into, but its doable. I stripped the weird nuts inside my frame when I was installing my LSD, and they just cut it out and replaced it. Never had another problem with it. Cost about $80.

yikes...good thing you're okay.

well whenever i stripped threads i had a machine shop re-thread the hole (itll be bigger of course) then used a bigger bolt.

Take it to a body shop like he said and have a collision repair guy do it.

drill holes inside the wheel weel area.. and use a nut/bolt job.. Use a small hole saw.. Easy fix.. I had this problem myself.

if i drill the hole, will it weaken the chassis at all? thats a good idea i might try it today.

its too small to worry about it.

Stock is just pretty much a bolt tack welded to there or something, and they end up breaking over time.

Just make sure you drill at the right spot/level, or your gonna regret it and have to make more holes or something..

one word..... helicoil...

http://www.carbidedepot.com/formulas-tap-helicoil.htm (tap size chart)
how to helicoil (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=7&url=http%3A//www.roadstarmagazine.com/modules.php%3Fname%3DNews%26file%3Darticle%26sid%3 D233&ei=Me0lQ9-KKI-oaL6ioLMJ)

it is said that the helicoil can be stronger than the original threads.... on some situations... i dont think id trust it as a head bolt (head to the block)

good luck man i hope you get that fixed....

that wont work, becuase there wont be anything inside the frame, just a hole. The bolt itself doesnt thread to the hole/frame, but a nut itself that is welded in place.. and these things tend to break off and dissapear.

there were two places that the threads were messed up. the sway bar one and the inner tension rod bracket one where the tension rod blocks it. are they both accessible just through cutting the small holes. thanks hypertek i really appreciate it.
