I just moved back to the states from Japan, and my girlfriend moved from Japan to England. I am really used to communication through cell phone emails, and so it sucks not to be able to do that anymore. We both have cell phones now, but obviously not on the same network. I've heard about services that will transmit text messages between international networks... I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with this. Any thoughts would be appreciated !

thanks !

I know that the guys from our UK office text back to the UK all the time while they are over here for SEMA, PRI, or what have you. Now I don't know if that's because both phones are based in the same country or what, if any special features/options you would need on your phone or with your srvice provider but it seems likely. I know I had to have a specific phone to call internationally when I was travelling out of the country tuning.

It takes awhile for me to get replies. I mostly text them when it's like midnight over there. Haha

Ditto. At .25/text, it can add up quickly though...

You can always text back and forth through AIM....one time Mrmeph sent me an IM and i had signed off already, so it came to my phone. Then i was like...WOAH..i just got a text message from Japan. COol.

I work for Cingular, it is possible, but only if your carrier has an agreement with the carrier of the person that you are looking to text with, and international messages, as has been mentioned, can add up in cost QUICKLY, it would be more cost effective to do it through AIM signed in through your phones, as has also been mentioned.

:D
You can also text message phones that don't have AIM using the AIM service.
I forgot how though.
I think you message "+12125551234", basically + and the whole US phone number.
