View Full Version : How much is too much for a 240sx ?

Well ive been in the 240 thing for a few years already and Ive owned about 5. All of my 240's i bought ranged frome $700-$1200 , but with the price came dents and torn ass interiors and a dash with cracks. Saying that , I have never actually bought a decent 240sx .
Im just looking for a daily driver and I've found this 91 240sx fastback 5spd with 150k miles and the exterior is in mint condition , the original paint still shines like the day it was bought. The interior is immaculate and everything works. This is the cleanest s13 240 i have ever seen. The brakes and alternator and all the little things have been changed. Im thinking about buying it as a daily driver. What do you guys think ? The guy is asking 3500 , and thats way more than i want to spend , but you have to consider that its nice and has been well taken care of. Im thinking about bringing 3000 cash to his place tomorrow and try to pick it up , give me some opinions. thanks in advance.

It sounds steep. I got my S14 SE for 3500 and it was clean, only had a few cracks on the door panels.

Yeah I also thought it sounded kind of high but Ive never found a s13 240 that was in good shape , im talkin about the side bolsters on the seats are still good. I think this car is an SE also . One of my pet peeves when buying a 240 is , you have to add the cost of repainting the car if you want it to actually look nice. but considering that the paint on this car still looks MAGNIFICENT ,I could see myself deduct like 1k off the bat as if I were to paint the car.

Price of forties has gone up. If the car is as clean as you say it is....it is worth every penny.

Yeah I agree prices of 240's went up but this is from an old guy that just wants to get some money back from tuning it up and stuff. I dont thinkg 150k for a 91 240sx is alot of miles , its about average i think , Its a freaking 14 year old car !!! Averaging 14 years with 12,000 miles each year , thats already 168,000 miles. I think im goign to get the car but i wish he would take liek 2500 for it , sucks man , who knows ill give you guys a heads up.

over $1000 is too much for an S13, over $4000 is too much for an S14.

thats about average for an s13 and some s14s.. what do you expect? they are 15 year old cars. even driving just a conservative 10k/yr for 15 will net you 150k..

i got my s13 coupe for 1200. the interior was decent, there were 100k on it plus a rebuilt engine. everything was structurally and mechanically sound. even 3k is waaayy too much. but maybe that's because i'm cheap. i would say that over 2k is too much for an s13 and for a zenki s14, you wouldn't catch me spending more than 3.5-4k. a kouki s14, now that's a whole 'nother ball game.

if evvveerrry little thing works and nothing has ever been tampered with... if it still have a stock jack and spare and all that crap and everything is clean and its a single owner?? 3k is worth it, definately definately worth it

$3500 is absolutely ridiculous. i don't know why these people are paying so much for s13's. i can't wait till the 3rd fast and furious comes out, i'm gonna throw my s13 up for sale and ask $5,000.
rsxyz
08-10-2005, 07:50 PM
like i said , i just wanted to get opinions , i know that 3500 for the car is way too much. im sure i could hold out and try to find another s13 hatch , who knows how long it would take to run across another immaculate 240. ive seen alot of 240's and most of the decent ones that ive seen are either a red/maroonish color , and i hate those. This 240 being white , and the way that everything is perfect, thats the only reason im considering it.
rsxyz

im pretty sure that most of the 240's that people buy are either 500-1500 . that being said i bet it wasnt in awesome shape , unless its one of those rare ones that are being garaged by some old fart. Im pretty cheap when it comes to 240's also , ive bought zenkis for 2k and shells for 300 bucks. AS a daily driver that is very well maintained , im not planning on doing any engine work or anything. For a reliable daily driver , would you guys want to me to drive a civic ! no thanks. id rather walk. my budget is 3k , but if i find something cheaper and on par with my current situation , id jump all over it.
i paid 4700 cash for my coupe 3 years ago. 72k miles on a 93 and everything was perfect except the dash had a crack in it. If it's really in good shape, and you know if it is or not, then get it.

Ill see tmoorrow after i talk to the owner , Ive talked to him before like a year ago and Ive been keeping my eye on it ever since. I saw him while he was driving it and then i flagged him down. Ill get this car and ill show everyone up !

In after the edit , lol . ill see what i can do . I think the reason hes asking so much is cause of the recent stuff hes done to it . I think he said he redid all the brakes , the disks and calipers, new tires, who knows ill get some more info tomorrow.

Im gonna try to not talk about the goods and just start bringing up bad things and try to get to the point where he cant explain why certain things are happening and then hell go down on price. i know the game.

over $1000 is too much for an S13, over $4000 is too much for an S14.
That's a retarded thing to say....
My S14 cost me $9800. Silver Moss 1998 5spd in flawless condition, 60k miles, brand-new complete repaint BY Nissan (with engine OUT, interior OUT, etc..), new brakes, new tires, and a 100k aftermarket warranty. Worth every penny. I bought the nicest 240 for 1000 miles at the time (as per autotrader), and I haven't regretted a thing about the purchase.
and guess what? It's a year later, and I could still sell the thing for $10,000 on Autotrader inside of a DAY if I wanted to. I had to buy it within 3 hrs of it being listed originally, 2 days later the seller got offers of $11k+, but the title was already mine
haha, i doubt you could sell that for 10k, but that is just me

In Charlotte I probably couldn't. In DC I most certainly could.
Hell, I've gotten offers of $10k for the thing. One dude flagged me down while I was driving once and wanted to buy it. Lots of kiddies buying cars with checks from daddy around here.

i dont know if i'd buy it for 10k, but i'm sure there are others who would.

I bought a pristine 240sx 1991 5 Speed Hatch 4 years ago for 2200 bucks. I just bought a pretty rought 1991 Coupe for 2400. the inflation on these cars is ridiculous, what's worse is it's so hard to find one that isn't riced the hell out.
No stock s13 is worth over 2500 dollars unless it has less than 100K miles and it's a DOHC.

well, the car was perfect, no rust, no cracks in the dash, well taken care of extierior.... and the lot. Some old man had it.
edit: forgot to mention its been through 2 wrecks now, so its a pos.

i think if you dont get it, someone else will take it. I think it is kinda pricy if it dosnt has any upgrade, DONE CORRECTLY. BUT If the guy is able to provide you all of the serivce record and the car is absolute beautiful, it might worth it as a realible daily drive.
just think that if you spend $1000 and buy a POS, and you spend another 1000 to get a ok paint job and sometime and effort to get some good interior panel or parts...it all adds up.

that's right... little things add up... you want a good daily driver, so reliability is a must, and it should look decent as well.

I just bought an 1989 fastback with some front end damage for $2000. Perfect condition asides from the front. 213xxx miles but all highway and oil and plugs, distributor, wires replaced every 3000 miles. No rust at all which is very rare for Hawaii. New paint and rims, perfect interior, tint, exhaust, intake. :naughty:

well i ended up not getting that "perfect 240" for 3k and ended up getting one that was less than perfect. The car is a 91 fastback 5spd SE. 121,000 miles. Single owner and mostly driven by the wife. Has a stock Sony cd player. I still have the window sticker that came with the car , its weird looking at it . I dont know if i would buy a brand new 240sx for 18k . Well here are some pics. http://myweb.cableone.net/thanhsayz/241.jpg

you can replace the hatch
and you can get another white fender
i'd rather have a mismatched front fender then a largish dent on the rear 1/4.

holy cow... i just figured that my engine was pretty good condition 2 years ago when it had 145k or more still able to get 25 mpg all high way... but now engine is dying :(
i guess you must be really rich when you are able to replace plugs, wires and as well as the distributor every 3k miles.
oil and plugs, distributor, wires replaced every 3000 miles.
and as for the price of the car, i guess it all depends on what you plan to do with it, if you plan to swap out most of the stuff why bother to pay so much for a clean looking car , as long as the body is straight and no major dents. unless you want to keep it stock then a little extra is still worth it.
