I just got my other SR engine and installed like a week ago. It starts up fine but on my oil pressure gauge when i start the car it shows no pressure the 3-5 seconds later i have like 2 bar oil pressure and the engine makes a winding noise like when your low on power steering fluid but it only winds when there is oil pressure and it doesn't move at all when revving. I am gonna order another OEM oil pump from Phase2 next week and need to know how hard it is to install if any ones done it with the engine inside the car. I searched the forums and didn't come with much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

check the oil pan for dents first.
SR20's hate deneted oil pans ;)

2 bar is decent...worry bout it when your driving it hot and it starts dipping to less than a bar. Anything less than 10 PSI is bad juju. Another thing you can do is run thicker oil. Run atleast a 10-40. Last thing you wanna do is change your oil pump!!! Cuz for that much work, you might as well buy another damn block!!! You gotta pull the whole head, and whole bottom pan to get to the pump. Hence you might as well pull the whole engine out and put it on a stand.

wait, I read that wrong. 2BAR DOH!!!
2Bar is ~30PSI so yeah thats good.
It should go up when you rev up the motor.
Mine goes to about 70ish
Idle around 30PSI when warm. a little more if the oil hasn't warmed up.

well my oil pressure stays between 1 and 2 bar when the oil is hot and doesn't move at all when revving or driving. There are no dents in the oil pan. i also know i do not have to remove the head and the bottom oil pan basically because i have a spare SR and have torn it down to bare block twice and can see the oil pump bolts. There are two underneath the camshaft sprockets inside the head, like 10 on the outside, main crank pulley and then 2 inside the oil pan that are also holding up the bigger bottom oil pan. But until i decide whether or not to order one i will put new oil and put much thicker then what i have and cross my fingers. I'll post the results in a couple of days when i can get some new oil.
by the way, this is another block :D

just out of curiosity, where is your oil pressure sender mounted.

it is mounted right besides the oil filter in the original factory sending unit plug. I also replaced all the oil with 20w-50 and new oil filter and no change.
I had a mechanic buddy look at it for me today and he said the oil pump because when the gauge shows that there is pressure the pump makes a winding noise and he said that is the bearings in the pump and they are fryed thats why it doesn't move with the rpms. So tomorrow im ordering one from phase2motortrend and hopefully have it on the road by next weekend. Wish me luck.
