It's not really targeted at street racing. It's targeted at "racer looking" cars. Alot of us here have exhausts, aero kits, turbo, etc. that definitely put us in that category.

Looks like I'll be buying an RSR Ex-Mag.

we need to start a petition or something cuz its not fair to daily enthusiasts who like to work on cars and get tickets. This is mainly for street racing purposes and they ASSUME and catagorize us as street racers. Shiet I already got harassed for that in Fairfield. Cop pulled me over for my exhaust. I got a FL tag but he still hassled me for it. Eventually, being in the military saved my ass. I mean honestly tho, if i get popped for my car, what jurisdiction would cali have on my car when my car is not registered in this damn state? Only thing imposed on me is to pass a smog test to get my damn base sticker which doesnt even fly cuz im still running my last base Department of Defense sticker from NJ. If they tell me that i have to follow the CVC to the book...i might as well buy another car cuz my car is as ILLEGAL as it can get in cali. 5% limo tint, blitz exhaust, big ass blitz fmic saying blitz with bumper cut out and a SR20det in it.

I mean what justifies me to be a cali resident??? they keep throwing that bullshiet in my face. "youre in cali now so you have to follow cali codes" i mean i can understand the tints and exhaust but smog? I got no smog in my state. Am I really a cali resident when i dont pay CALI STATE TAX and I DONT VOTE IN THIS STATE???

Also...WTF. This shiet is pinned on imports. Like said before...what domestics dont street race too??? How fuckin hypocritical is that??? Its just soo damn ironic that every single time that i got pulled over for my blitz exhaust since i got back to cali *my last count was 4 in the last 2 yrs* there just seems to be a domestic, running straigth pipe with no muffler passing me while the cops harrassing me. You can hear my exhaust 3 miles away but not a car with no muffler that you can tell is running some fuckin cams?

i guess you didnt know? recently, they changed the law regarding noise level. before if you got pulled over for an exhaust and got a ticket you could fight it if the cop didnt use a decibel meter...now, they dont have to use a decibel meter...whatever they say is too loud is considered too loud...so a cops definition could vary from le mans c6 to stock e36 throaty to an 87 camry with a whole in the muffler loud...meaning, "a law enforcement officers judgement...

keep in mind, this is regarding getting a ticket for noise level, not whether its smog legal...

fliprayzin240sx
08-06-2005, 04:07 AM
whats noise level ticket in cali now??? Last i heard it was like $120-130. The last cop who pulled me over said "anything aftermarket is illegal" Im like WTF? So opening a muffler shop in cali is a bad idea since its aftermarket, hence your whole existence as a shop is "illegal." I guess smog legal exhaust dont mean sheit now huh? So now wuts the difference between a smog legal exhaust and a 50 state legal one? 50 state meet the old 91db noise requirement?

mastaflash05
08-06-2005, 09:17 AM
damn that sucks guys. its all about the money realy. it said so in the article. im so glad i live in quiet little ohio now.

and if they start the stuff with "illegal aftermarket exhaust", then shouldnt the damn exhaust shops in the area get shut down. those exhausts they are replacing on those cars isnt OEM, therefore aftermarket.

and about the noise, my car has a greddy exhaust, and its prety quiet out of throttle. ive heard cars with exhaust leaks that were louder, but it looks like it would be loud.

heres what i say you guys do, have the biggest meet ever, and have a civil protest of some sort. drive with a pack of 300 cars from one end of the state to the next taking the most busy, high trafic routes. that or go park on the cali. dept. of transportations parking lot, then do a huge symcronised burnout. set the lot on fire!

Those with truly "modified cars" usually dont speed as much as your everyday joe. Our cars are too low, the tires to thin, and the suspension to stiff. And if you took the total number of people who die yearly from street racing i bet it wouldnt even eclipse the number of deaths due to talking on cell phones. Seriosly, why dont you see headlines like "Stupid Fucking Soccer Mom Bitch on Phone Kills Family of Four". Because that shit happens every day. Or wait, what about "Inadequately Trained High School Girl Causes Infant Death", becaus at least where i live a slug could obtain a drivers license. It should be mandatory to learn avasive manuvers and high speed car control.

I really hate to say it but street racing isnt that big of a deal. I could argue that shit in court with evidence any day of the week. So caps, save my fucking tax dollars you arent doing me a favor or making the streets one god damn bit safer.

If you do not agree with the above you are wrong or stupid. But like whoever said, its obviously about $.

I wouldn't worry about it, because SD's Drag Net mainly focused on illegal street racing. A lot of auto manufactures have avaliable aftermarket parts for their cars now a days and you can buy a car thats fixed up with bodykit and engine mods. How are they going to stop car manufactures from doing that? If you just play it cool, then you should be alright.

ok, this is REALLY fucked up. here is my reasoning:

california has always been "cracking" down on street racers and shit, big fuckin deal. but now they have a $5million program dedicated to it???!!?!?!? BULLSHIT! what about our school systems? funding has been cut back sooo much, they could have used part if not ALL of the 5 million towards the schools. and im positive that the voters in california would agree with me too. think about it, a mother of two could care less about what punk-ricer-kids are doing in their civics at 2am, cause she is too busy worrying about how she is gonna pay for her kids schooling.

wait I think your missing the point here there are many other problmes and there are pro-active ways too enforce other measures that can set up a place for who would like too race in a safe and legit spot I think that would be a better proactive way that the state can make money

you have too remember when you start riping personal poessions from some one they get very angry

since your so sarcastic with your reply lets here what way or idea you have that would be a better alternative think of it this way there are so many laws that just standing out side in some spots is illegal if the pace of law making keeps up this way going out side and looking at any one might be deemd Illegal soon.

I really think that Cali needs to get there priorities straight. A street racing program is one thing, but having people stopped just for a 2" lower suspension is crazy.

We really need to get this to other forums and have SEMA help. I've seen many laws that SEMA stopped in Import Tuner. I don't know about me, since I'm a minor, about doing anything or them taking me seriously, but ine of us really needs to let them know.

The 5 millions dollars the state is spending is an investment. They're gonna make it back through citations. Our government is like the mafia, and we're living on their territory so we gotta do what they say. Unfair taxation, swindeling us out of money, unfair laws etc. We just have to deal with it. If you dont wanna deal with their bullshit, then just go buy a new car. -if you get a fix it ticket... slap on your stock part, or whatever, get it signed off and pay your 15 bucks

Nice! Guess what guys? This stupid thing is supposedly "instituted on the first of september" and i just got rolled 3 times heading to work. Its only like, a 10minute drive, streets. Rolled once in Pomona, twice midway to LaVerne, then a third time in LaVerne. Why? Modified exhaust.

Cop1: "you're exhaust is too loud. Its aftermarket, isn't it? Aftermarket is illegal!"
Cop2: "You do know your exhaust is illegal, right? Why are you prancing around with it? License and registration."
Cop3: "Im pulling you over for your illegal exhaust."

Now here's the cool part. My dailydriver is automatic, and my exhaust is a no-name glasspack replacement mufflers, sold at VatoZone or where ever. piping is the stock 2.25'', with muffler and cat.

Told each one, 'if you wanna give me a ticket, go ahead. And make sure you give one to every Autozone, Pepboys, Pete's Mufflers, etc etc. Each and everyone of those places sells em. And being as they are illegal, they'd get tickets, right?'

Then i got a warning, and they started tailgating me with their lights on. Nice crooked cops.

I tried that once.. i had a 50 state legal muffler on my motorcycle. I got a ticket, and i told the cop it was legal. He said "That's a civil issue you can take up with the company if you'd like."

Makes me wanna pee on cops. But i know a few good cops, and they are nice and chill. I picked up a cool trick from my teacher cop friend that works pretty often for me. When get catch me doing whatever, i tell em 'can i call my boss imma be late to his house?' Cops asks "Who's your boss?" or something like that. "Oh, he's (i don't wanna give out his name cuz some people might try it themselves and fuck me over). Damn, he's going to get mad." And they go "oh, he's your boss? This is just a warning, fix that ____. And tell your boss to stop playing with choochoo trains."

Resurrection!!

Just thought i'd chime in cuz i just got an exhaust ticket taken care of. They got me in Daly City. I was driving hellza slow in my beemer and I got rolled by a bitch ass DC cop. Modified exhaust ticket. I sat on it for about seven months (fines got up to 300 and sumthin) and went to court for it yesterday. It only took about 30 mins for me and a friend to wrench on the car and put the oem'r back on. The judge reduced my fine to about $170 but I asked for community service instead and got 20 hrs to do in the next 120 days. The cool thing is that I work at a community based organization (CBO) so I can do my community service at work and get it signed off. Looks like I beat the MAN this time. However, I am buying a sil80 with an sr20 and if I get rolled in that thing i won't be so lucky. Frisco is cool with cops and tickets, San Mateo county can suck my sweaty, sweaty balls. sweaty

Are they targeting imports in LA too? my gf just moved there, second day got pulled for DWA. the car is bone stock but the cop told her the factory tint on her is300 is illegal and because she has WA plates...wtf, they pull over all out of state cars?!?!? stupid. she got away with a warning as he saw her living room in the back seat.

I think its rediculous that we get so much attention for "modified exhaust" when I get passed by harleys and there ugly pos bikes are so loud if my window is down I have to cover my ears.. why dont they get harrased???

here is what gets me...I moved from San diego to Riverside and most of the people up here drives these huge monster trucks with the lifts and hella loud exhaust systems. I know that they are louder then most imports exhuast system but, you will never hear of a off-road net to get them. Also, the old school muscle cars are way louder and most of them have non-emission stuff under there hoods and get by because their cars are old and don't have to meet the law on that. I should sell my 240sx and get a GTO and I will never get fucked with...

I don't understand how having window tinting could give police officers "probable cause to stop and inspect a vehicle and its engine compartment." It seems it gives officers power for the sake of having more power (I love my country, but I fear my government).

what if we organized a state wide protest on all freeways. I know I am probably dreaming, but we could get most of the modified cars, trucks, and motorcycles, domestics, asian, european, and make a time where statewide we all pick a freeway and start driving 5mph, shutting down peoples commutes to work and home, like the taxi drivers did in NY. We could meet somewhere important like Arnolds front lawn and have like a "million-tuner" march. Imagine the media attention we would get. We're talkin' nation-wide. Then everyone in all the other 49 states would see the bullshit we have to put up with. With Americas love of cars and the whole "James Dean is cool" background of our nation, Washington DC may be forced into doing something about the prejudice toward car enthusiasts in CA.

That's a pretty stupid idea. That will only get every single person on the freeway AGAINST your idea. Including me. Please don't try these "rebel" tactics as they are basically the reason these stupid laws are in place already.

Its a protest not rebel tactics.

It's a retarded protest. It will do nothing to prove your point.

This is why Marin Luther King did so well, he used non violent protest so that it gained sympathy from all types of people, not piss off everyone.

Fail.

No, you're right. I was just emotional about the whole thing. After thinking about it, I wouldn't want to be the cause of a major pile-up either. What is your suggestion for a non-violent protest, that will show everyone that our rights as auto-enthusiasts are being takin' away? We need to grab the attention of the nation, cause all californians have been convinced by the media that we are all a bunch of blood thirsty monsters out to run them over in our race cars. I'm not jokin', by the way.

Yeah sorry didn't mean to be so brash about it, but its that exact thing that is causing the nation to fight against us.

As for non-violent protest of sorts, I would say, stop breaking the law. Drive safely and curteously on the streets, take the racing to the tracks, when stopped by a cop be nice and respectful. Change others opinions of us, that really is the only way. I can't say that the view of most Americans towards import car owners is far from the truth.

To help ease the hatred of Americans to Import cars, perhaps we can be more accepting of them and in turn they would be accepting of us, learn to appreciate each every form of motorsport, in the hopes that one day they may do the same for us.

Don't fight the system, but don't submit to their wills. Write letters to your congressman, woman. Contact local/American performance and aftermarket parts manufacturers and ask them for help. Companies like Eibach and K&N bring MILLIONS to the Californian state economy, their voices are much stronger than yours alone, and if these companies are a sympathetic ear, they may one day become a sympathetic voice as well.

I dunno. Just ideas.:ughug:

I agree, but I have always been cool with the cops, that doesn't change the way the media portrays us, and that is what dictates the populous. K&N, and the like, should already be on our side. Without us, they're not making any money. And if it's illegal to use their product, They wont have many buyers. And companies like K&N, whom pay big dollars to have their products legalized, should be PISSED OFF that the cops are forcing people to maintain a stock vehicle, when they offer a legal alternative. You are right about keepin' it peaceful, but we need to have our voices heard. We need to let the majority know we are not punk kids out to cause death and destruction, rather we are passionate about our cars.
