I searched and only found one post about this. If I leave the heater controls on the feet/face setting everything works fine. If I change to feet only or face only or defrost I hear a flapping noise. I am going to take it apart, what should I look for? Does anyone have a link to a S14 FSM?

Thanks

In short, don't bother.
I have the same problem. started with only happening with the defrost only button on. Then everything but the foot/defrost. Now I have to back off all the buttons so none of them are depressed to make the noise stop. Either the flapper arm is broken or the gear in the motor that runs it is.
If you wanna work on it you really need to remove the whole dash, it's a huge pain. I reached in and slightly curved the top flap down so air comes from all vents and I don't need to select any of the buttons. no noise and I still stay cool. hooray

Thanks for the reply. It's not my daily so I don't really mind taking it apart to fix it. Any links to a good FSM?

You can access all the door motors without dash removal except for the recirculation motor.

The mode and air mix motors are above the dash, beside the steering column, the bi-level motor is next to the glovebox opening.

So it sounds like it could be the mode motor, everything else works fine.

Thanks for the help, I'll check it out.
