Recently my 5th gear gave out in my sr tranny so im looking into alternatives to fixing it. I know the KA tranny with the replacement of the bellhousing bolts right up and works, but what are the pros and cons to it?

It's the same thing. You could have known that with a search instead of asking.

I did search, its not the same. The ka has shorter gears. I was hoping to get a reply from someone who's done it versus someone telling me something they've heard.
sr tranny is much stronger, and the only gear that is different is 5th. the sr tranny has a longer 5th gear

What makes the SR tranny stronger than the KA's?

i'd say that its not actually stronger..."ITS A SR TRANNY THATS WHY! SO SHUTUP" kind of thing. BUT then again i guess it depends on what kind of driving your doing..autox...drift...drag? Then you have to think about how much power your putting out.....well thats my thoughts on it....

No, and no.
The SR DE has a longer ratio, .838 vs .759. And the gearbox is the EXACT same internally, there's nothing stronger about either one. The model number is the same for both, as is the RB20, CA18, and VG30 transmissions. All identical build specs/parts.

so would you be able to use the ka's internals to remedy the prob on the sr tranny? or would that be too much of a hassle compared to another choice? or what other options are there? im having the same problem with 5th gear.

Install the KA transmission with the SR bellhousing. Much easier than swapping internals between cases.
You guys are acting like this is some new finding or something.
And to the comment: "I was hoping to get a reply from someone who's done it versus someone telling me something they've heard", I didn't 'hear' anything fuckass, I've done it, twice. The first one was over five years ago, did you even own a 240 back then? Being cocky and arrogant is no way to get the answers you're looking for.
