1991 Nissan 240sx with KA24DE.

It’s been a week already trying to solve this problem. It started when my car had some hesitation issues during acceleration. I came home and checked the MAF with another MAF. Once I plugged in the other MAF and started the car, the engine started stumbling and just stopped. After replacing the MAF with the original, the car would not start anymore. The motor cranks, but didn’t start at all. I unplugged the MAF wire and started the car without it. The car didn’t start. I then changed the distributor with a good distributor and the car started again. I drove around and the car died a few blocks away, so I had to tow it back home. I disconnected the MAF and replaced the transistor unit with another one and the car fired right up. I turned the car off and plugged in the MAF. The car did not start up, it only cranked. I am getting an engine check code 11 (crankshaft position sensor), 12 (mass airflow), 13(coolant temperature sensor), 21 (ignition signal circuit). The engine coolant temp sensor (code 12) is plugged in with the clip and is only a week old so I don’t understand why it’s throwing that code. I stripped the wire harness and it looks o.k. I also purchased a voltmeter and test light to check if power was going to the MAF, distributor, power transistor/coil, coolant sensor and everything looks o.k. I unplugged the spark plug wires and attached a spark plug at the end of each spark plug wire and can see spark. I can smell fuel every time the engine cranks. I checked timing several times and it looks correct. Does anyone have any ideas to what this problem may be?

did you check the crankshaft position sensor? It is possible that it jumped time too.

Good luck

Check your ground wires on the engine block directly above your 02 sensor towards the rear driverside portion of the engine block. Try wiggling those wires while someone starts your car. It's possible you could have a short in the grounding wires at that spot. It may meter out good on an ohm/voltmeter but can still cause startup problems. Also make sure you have a good ground between the firewall & the engine block.
Don't ask me how I know this....
Anyhow, hope this helps...

Thanks for the help guys. Found out it was a timing problem. What a miserable experience.
