Just got some junkyard rotors for my 5lug project and now that they're on, sounds like the pads are constantly rubbing the rotors. When I brake, it sounds like sand paper rubbing in the rear...

They had the common reddish brown junkyard "rust", wiped em down with green plastic wool [as opposed to steel wool] and they were dusty brown.

Heres pics after a drive down the street in 2nd and slow 3rd gear:

you can see the spots where the old pads were "rusting" on the rotor at the yard... doesnt seem permanent, but who know :cj:

Just worried it might glaze the rotors/pads and end up costing more than another pair of used s14 rotors... Or would it go away with time? Didnt seem to go away after driving [and braking] for about 5 min...

When no one is around you, just brake really hard to clean that rotor. If that doesn't work, drive about 30 mph, and yank your ebrake to a point it slows down, but don't lock it up. It should be clean.

Do this at your own discretion. If you're realy concered, have the rotors turned.

or just buy blanks and call it a day
cheap blanks can be had, especially if you go oem replacement vs. brembo

Yeah autozone well any auto parts rotors are good enough for the money they cost. They aint the best though so maybe just getting oem from the dealer will be better than paying for the rotor at the junkyard, taking it out, and then resurfacing.

Resurface them. When putting new pads you should ALWAYS do this.

you don't always have to resurface them. run over them with a scotch pad on a die grinder to give them a non-directional finish. Then measure them for runout and parallelism. If they measure out good, run them.

im gonna say nay on the die grinder method unless ur using a giant roloc pad

only need a 2" pad, should do all 4 rotors. also do the rear mating surface.

if you don't have a micrometer or a dial indicator with a rolling tip, there is a fast and easy way to check for both things simultaniously.

Install, pump brakes up, and spin the wheel watching closely for drag. :D

I've never seen one that comes out of a standard (ie: what parts stores generally have) lathe with a non-directional finish.
