Hey, I was caught 2 months ago and my court day is approaching. It also came with a faluire to inspect ticket. The court appearance is mandatory, I don't know exactly what to say... I'm ready to take the hit, I did buy the sticker from a friend under the impression that it was real. I don't want to rat him out either since it carries pretty heavy penalties. This is in NJ, I'll probably loose my insurance because of this since I have NJ manufacturers, the only descent insurance in NJ.... what do you guys think?

damn, you messed up there. If it has anything closely related to gov, don't fuck around. Engines are one thing, but tags and such are a whole different ballgame.

Needless to say, you = owned.

Don't think theres much to do once your caught. Start digging around for cash now cuz you'll need it.

If your friend sold it to you under the impression it was real I'd turn him in. He fucked you so why would you not return the favor? Or did you know...

For the same reason that when someone buys a copy of window's xp pro from a guy on the street for five bucks and they tell him it's legit. You know it's not legit, but you don't want to pass a good deal up.

I don't know how close you consider this friend of your's but if you take this one on the nose it's probably going to hurt you for a long while. I don't envy the decision you have to make.

yeah dude... if you thought he sold you a real sticker just tell the court or whatever how your friend sold you that sticker and you thought it was real... i mean thats fucked up how your friend will sell you a fake sticker.... not tell you... he knew it had "heavy penalties" to me thats not a good friend... i would of punched him in the face and get him in trouble for doing that.... good luck dude...

I got caught w/ a fake inspection sticker, not a cheap price tag. Think it was like $500 plus whatever tickets they give you. The cop gave me a break though, I told him I took it to a shop and I thought I was paying to get it repaired to pass inspection. He told me just to get it reinspected before the court date and only gave me the failure to pass inspecion ticket. Don't rat your friend out, that's not gonna help you. You may want to find a lawyer that's local to the town you got the ticket in. He may know the prosecuter and could cut you a break.

geico has cheap rates in NJ. check them out if you lose yours. i switched from allstate to geico and my insurance dropped roughly $1200 a year for the same coverage.

i just rock my expired tag.

someone I know has forged some pretty damn good city stickers and got away with it for a year now (has 2 cars but refused to buy 2 stickers). I developed the technique, but will never use it (I don't want the trouble).

I'd suggest getting a lawyer as well. Looks like you'll have to spend quite a bit of money either way, so hopefully the lawyer can do some good.

I'm pretty sure the fine is $500 + $130 faluire to inspect, no points. A lawyer will just cost me another $500.

Dunkee, did you say a specific shop? I was going to say the same thing but don't want to name a shop and get them into trouble.

wait even if you thought it was a real sticker, isnt it illegal to go buy a real inspection sticker anyway, isnt the whole point, that you need to get YOUR shit inspected, not just go get a legit sticker. either way it was wrong correct? I live in michigan where all we have is insurance and registration so I dont know anything about all that crap. but correct me if im wrong.

sigh... we don't have inspections here... only registration every year, that's about it.

Pay the fine or turn your friend in..

this is simple.

turn your friend in. when he gets there he'll pass the blame on. simple as that. you aren't liable for a fraudulent sticker and he can pass that off on someone else pretty easily.

Sorry if you misunderstood, I was saying that as a reason why I shouldn't get a lawyer. Lawyers come in handy for other violations such as major speeding tickets but they can't really help me here.

lawyers know loopholes that you don't. the end. i'd say i had no way of knowing it was bogus.

yeah but, having a sr20det or a giant turbo on your KA24 may make it impossible for you to pass your car in certain states.

fake inspection stickers are there to fool officers into thinking you have a inspection sticker.

real inspection stickers should be just as good as the real deal.

imo if this guy clearly stated you were getting a legit sticker, you should turn him in. he screwed you over first. if you knew it was a bogus sticker, the honorable thing to do would be to keep your mouth shut.

screw printing fake stickers either get it done legit and pay the guy or if thats too much go to the junkyard with a razorblade, find a newer addition, and steal that sticker

BUT WHAT IM SAYING is that he bought the "real sticker" because he wanted to cover up the fact that he has a modded engine, that he knew wouldnt pass, so thats like saying if my brother looks the same as me and is 21 and gave me his id, that I had a "REAL ID" even though it was real, its not legit for me to use. so no matter if it is real or not, it is not for him to use. am I getting this right?

No, he did ask but I said it was too far back to remember cause I went to a bunch of different places (BTW, this was to the cop not court). I did everything through the cop. I think you should def get the lawyer...or at least talk to one. I paid about $300 for a lawyer for another offense but before that I went somewhere else and they wanted to charge me $800! Shop around. They're might be more penalties then just the fine.

He's right...they're is no point in pointing any fingers. You are not supposed to be buying inspection stickers. They are not gonna cut you a break for selling some one out.

You are making sense
what you are sayin is that even if he bought a FAKE or REAL sticker, it doesnt matter, he still bought it from his freind and not the Motor Vehicles department.

EXAMPLE:
Judge: "so you bought the sticker from your freind"
D4veCh3n: "yes, i thought it was real"
Judge: "but you still bought it from your freind, and not the DMV. You're an idiot, proceed to jail"..

nobody is arguing about the legality of the issue. its 100% illegal to purchase an inspection sticker.

however, (on the black market) when you purchase a real inspection sticker from a contact, usually they arrange for your car to actually be passed one way or another; usually by bribe or arrangement with the people that work at the inspection station. so you are getting a 'real' sticker; meaning as long as you don't blab to an officer that you bought a sticker, there should be no way for him to tell.

since d4 actually got caught, his friend probably screwed him over.

heres the bottom line. if you didnt have a licensed inspection mech. inspect your car and than sign the stickers and stick them to your windsheild, it's not legal in the state of NJ. Period to end..

Not only that, but didn't New Jersey get rid of state inspections a couple of years ago?

Regardless of who's right or wrong, you need a lawyer on your side. Unless you took it to your friend and he had an inspection station and put a sticker on your car, and you assumed the inspection was a real inspection and it gets written down for the state (PA does this), if this wasnt the case, you are at fault 100% on this. Buying an inspection sticker, real or fake is still illegal. You're friend is just as much in the wrong as you, but the court will not even attempt to take your side unless your friend has a legit inspection station.
