s14 vlsd squeeking

i just bought a vlsd from a private seller which never installed it in his car, he didnt know the history of the vlsd. the unit does not make a humming noise. it works great it just makes a wierd squeeking like a metal to metal. does anyone have the same problem or know what is wrong?

That doesn't sound good. Did you change the fluid? Any metal flakes? I'd pull the rear cover and check it out for bearing pre-load, ring/pinion mesh, etc.

i changed the gear oil and there was no metal shavings of any sort.
