View Full Version : Silvia JDM lights blowing up tail fuse

I installed Silivia JDM headlights and drive around for 2 weeks. Now, my taillights/dash/Silvia parking lights blow every time I put in a fuse. If the lights have a lower resistance, I think this problem would be prevalent in many cars - but this doesn't explain driving 2 weeks without a problem.
I tried bumping the 10A fuse to 20A (marked taillights and controls dash and Silvia parking lights also). Something I just realized, that I don't have the side markers connected yet.
The fuses blow within moments of driving. Looking for ideas. (tonight I will try to connect the side markers).
Thanks,
Steve

Pull all the lights and check your connections and check for a bad bulb.

You definatley have something crossed or not grounded properly or a bad bulb that pops your fuse everytime a little moisture hits it. What type of JDM headlights do you have?

All the bulbs are working, I can walk around the car and see them before it blows. I tested for grounding issues by vigurously shaking the cables behind the headlights and the fuse will not blow. After a few moments it will blow.
My headlights are Nissan Silvia Japan OEM headlights. The real deal, from jspec.com.
Thanks,
Steve

The problem you might be experiencing is corrosion, I would check all the bulb's on the circuit to make sure you dont have water intrusion/corrosion which can cause shorting.

Not exactly the most thorough troubleshooting method, you might want to go to your local parts store and source a cheap ie < $20 multimeter and go back and check all the lights you wired in. Just kill the power to your car, open up the sockets and check your resistance to ground on all the wires, you should have one ground and the rest should either be open or have a really high resistance.
Just to clarify what kinda car do you have, and what lights did you wire in ie tails s13 front end etc?

what circut did you wire the corner lamps in on?
just because a bulb works does not mean it is not bad
