at least i think its my clutch.
when i try an shift, i push the pedal all the way to the floor, and it still grids so bad i cant even get it in gear sometimes, plus i can have my foot all the way down on the clutch, and the car will still roll stlightly.
i feel thew clutch is not engaging or disengaging fully.
i just bought this vehicle with this problem.
the prvious owner said 2 years ago, they dropped the tranny and replaced the clutch. and replaced the clutch master cylinder and slave with aftermarket replacements. i know the slave was later replaced with a nissan one, but the mc is still aftermarket. i can swith out the mc with a working nissan unit from my old parts car.
can anyone help guide me in the right direction? i need to get this clutch issue fixed?
p.s. is there a chance my syncros in the tranny could be bad>?

when does your clutch feel like it engages? if you are stopped and put it in first gear how far do you have to lift your foot until the car begins to move? your clutch pedal height may be out of adjustment.

make sure there is enough fluid in teh tranny. check collor of the clutch fluid also and if there is enough. it could be the clutch going out . pedal may be out of adjustment and not disengaging fully when you press it down.
when it comes to things like that its very hard to say and most of the time a guess . id need to drive it where in chesapeake are you i can take a look at your 240 some time

so i was thinking of bleeding the clutch system tommarrow. i dont quite know how, but i figure i can search.
i have a working clutch mc, and slave in my old car, as well as a working clutch.
im in hickory/great bridge area. my old wrecked coupe is right on mount pleasant road. its a maroon 92 with silvia front end all FUBAR

its easy...
there are two bleeder screws on the 240sx. one is on the clutch damper box and the other is on the slave cylinder. i spotted them when i was doing my swap last week. bleed it from the damper box first. when that one is done, bleed it from the slave.
this is a common problem on alot of old cars. if your pedal is sticking to the floor and you have hard shifting / starting, then the problem is most likely your hydraulics. something is causing your clutch to not disengage fully. usually its a bad slave cylinder.
btw, transmission fluid won't have anything to do with it.

thanx al-s14, for your help. adjusted my pedal height.
and thanx aznpoopy, i'm going to bleed my lines tommarrow morning. that is what al suggested as well. i've never worked on the hydraulic clutch, where is the clutch damper box, i know that clutch damper line is often swapped for a ss one. i would like to buy one tonight and hold off till it comes in. also i have a nissan oem clutch mc and slave if i need to replace, so i may wait on a couple more responces tonight, and some more research.

clutch dampener is right next to the tranny on the frame rail, most people eliminate it as it can be a pita to bleed the system with it on ( removed mine when i did my swap), all you gotta do is carefully bend the line that went to the dampener towards the slave cylinder and run the hose(or ss line if you get one) to the slave. I like the way it feels alot more without it, but then again I have a nismo slave.

i thought you suppose to bleed the furthest part(SC) and then the closest(Damper). i have no problem with bleeding my damper with a speedbleeder but it is a pita to bleed it with out one. and all those stupid gaget that said will aid to bleed is totally useless to me.
but yea check the height of the adjestment screw first then check the hydraulic.

I bet they didn't bleed it right. You could always rapidly pump the pedal and see if it gets better. If it does there is air in the line.
