I'm assuming you own a bluebird, if thats the case, I think you would be better off with a front wheel drive ca18det cause I think the bluebird had a CA stock in other trims(?) Anyway when you buy an engine there is a good chance it will have the mounts on it. I doubt (but don't know) that the U12's would match up.

I'd recommend contacting the usual sources of great info on this topic - either www.heavythrottle.com or unstable hybrids. I know that heavythrottle sell Bluebird motors, but I don't know if they've done an install on one yet.
Good luck - and great idea!

ca18guy: i have thought of putting in a ca18det but i do not wan to degrade my cc. in japan they have u12 altezza that uses sr20det but is 4wd. i just wan to know whether the mountings that used in the car is the same in mine. u mean the engine will come with the engine mounting? i have never heard of that....unless you buy the half cut.
HippoSleek:yupp....i went to that place...posted some questions to them but no reply until now....thanks mate

To my knowledge a 4wd SR20DET has never been made. I'm not all knowing, it's just something that I haven't heard of. Does anyone want to clarify this?

The U12 in Japan is the bluebird, and not the Altezza. The Altezza is the Lexus IS series. Anyway the SR20DET came in the Pulsar GTI-R and was a 4WD. Matter of fact the turbo and the redtop gti-r engine is better than that from a PS13 silvia. The Bluebird also had a 4WD drive SR20DET. They came in both FWD and 4WD. The 4WD had the Attessa ets system almost like the one in the skylines. If you can get your hand on those you'll be able to drop the engine right in with no Problem. You can also go with the CA18DET, Its all up to personal preference. Hope that helps

i dont mean to argue but i have been looking for the RWD ca18det and i saw one of the swap shops had a ca18det on their webpage that they said was from an AWD bluebird...
so maybe they came in em at some point, maybe the site was wrong. i dont remember which one it was but ill look for it again.

i am sorry about the attezza thing...i am not very sure about the spelling...hehehe nissan does produce 4wd cars for bluebirds and pulsars. from what i heard...pulsar sss has the highest horsepower(225)
is it true u12 has fwd for sr20det?if it is true i can source the engine and hope that it will nicly in my hood.
another question....can anyone tell me the realiability of sr20det or ca18det? do they last long or prone to damage...

About reliability... Nissan makes kinda bulletproof motors, and asking a question like that will start a war. Its all opinions. One person's engine breaks, he says all of those are a POS.
What you should be more worried about is:
If my engine breaks, can I find the parts for it. You gotta remember the CA is approaching 20 years old. And they haven't made them in what, 12 years or something? Whereas the sr20det is still in production, and will be for another year or two.

thanks....i just want to make sure the engine is not prone to problems before moding the car...you are rite about the production of sr...this has not come to my mind until you mentioned it.
by the way......my car idles badly and it is pretty hard to rev...it is like stuck before it reaches the red line.....my car jerks when accelarating.....is it the vacumm or the tuning problem. i have send for tuning many times but the results are the same....do you know where is the location of the vacumm hose?
