I just received this Blacktop motor from over seas but I have a few concerns about the health of the motor. Before I show you pics, I should say that this motor will have the following:

Greddy RAS
Greddy Head Gasket
Greddy Valve Springs
Garrett GT2871R
ARP Studs/bolts
New gasket kit
New Water Pump
New rubber seals

and lots more bolt on performance stuff that does not seem relivant to this thread...

Here is the motor as I received it.

Now I removed the head so I could have a machine shop resurface the head, adjust the valves, install the Greddy springs, and clean the head.

The head looks very clean below:

But the block had some carbon build up it to assume that it had detonation and a blown head gasket plus all the oil in the turbo.

What do you guys think of the motor?

approximately how many miles were supposed to be on that engine? looks like typical engine wear to me. carbon buildup is a normal thing. when you get it back together a nice seafoam treatment looks like it could be in order to get that carbon off of those slugs. head looks to be in great shape. were the cams clean? looks like a solid purchase.

the motor looks good, mine looked just as a good and runs great. Pistons should always have black carbon buildup. And the residue from the HG is because of the material the oem HG uses. Its always gonna be like that. Your fine.

when you took the head apart, you make sure not to mix up the shims, rocker A's, and hlas? I did that my first time :duh:

yea, mixing up those parts can get quite expensive.

I did mix them up :fart:

Is there anything I can do? I just labeled them all in a pastic zip lock bag:(

I told my mechanic that I was told all shims are not the same size ( I did not know about rocker arms ) and he laughed and said he had always just threw them in randomly and never had an issue. Now I am freaked out.

I have no idea about the motor milage but I can tell you it is very very low. The cams and head looked perfectly clean and the belts on all pulleys have almost no wear on them. I removed the water pump and it was so new.

Purchased from eBay believe it or not. I paid $1500 for this motor / tranny / ECU / cut harness / turbo

either very low or the previous owner kept it serviced well.

This is the same seller and I paid $1500 which is his normal buy it now price but he will bump up the price if it has aftermarket parts on like he wants and extra $500 for this turbo manifold...

This would notmally be a $1500 motor.
