View Full Version : Bazooka tubes??

Ok, so I tried to search, but nothing really useful came up.
I've already upgraded the speakers in the back dash with some Alpines, and I shoved some Sony X-Plod's 6.5"s in the front doors, but I really want to stick a sub somewhere in my car (lots of industrial music).
So, one of my friends has a bazooka tube that he wants to sell, but I figured I'd see what you guys think of Bazooka tubes and their sound quality.
I've got an S13 coupe.
My electronics so far are a JVC KD-LX10 head unit and some 400watt amp I bought off another guy for real cheap...still not sure if I'd run just the sub with the amp (it has sub crossover) or if I should get them all powered by it.
(Note that any of this work I'm going to have to take to Al & Ed's or something, as I have no idea how to wire this stuff up).
Thanks!!!

I've got a 8" Optimus (what it says on the tube) in my Coupe trunk powered by a Pioneer 760Watt amp. It hits nicely where it'll rattle my rearveiw mirror. I't produces bass nicely, just make sure its not ported, it'll sound MUCH better not ported. Bazooka is a good name brand, so I'm sure it'll sound better than what I got. I like the system I have so I would recommend the tube if the price is good (got my tube for $15 from a friend!!!).

I got one for free with my S14 seats and it does the job. Its nice just because its simple to take out, I havent used it in a long time though, reminds me of the sub I have in my room, just a l bit louder, but not stupid loud so you can hear it outside of the car (but I guess I never really blasted it)

Any real audio enthusiast will tell you that ALL you components should be under their own dedicated amp power, not via the deck.
Bazooka tubes = CRAP.
There are plenty of options you can go for that are about the same cost (think like cars, check ebay for something that was top of the line a few years back).
If industrial is your thing ,even the design of the bazooka tube is wrong for you... lots of fast deep bass will sound muddled and maybe even echoey (haha, I think i just made up a new word). Personally I'm a fan of tight-accurate base above ALL. Depending your cash situation, I'd go with a 2channel amp and a single 10 or 12 in a sealed enclosure... if you want volume and no trunk, by all means go bigger and more powerful, but leave the zooka tubes to the people they were meant for... low income, small truck owners (seriously that was the intended audience when bazooka got big in the late 80s).
... oh, and I'm pretty jaded on this stuff since I heard about it constantly from my friend who was an installer @circuit city, so I guess it's made me somewhat of a audio snob by osmosis :) Best of luck!

from my experiences, bazooka tubes tend to sound pretty good in a hatch, and the are usually pretty cheap. I would agree with yoshi however, you really should run a seperate amp for the sub, my setup is output from computer -> 4 channel amp for speakers -> class D subamp, a decent subamp can be had on ebay for ~90. Also, learn to wire car audio, its easy =]

I'm running the nicer 200watt version of the 6.5 tube, mounted in the crawl space behind the seat in an S14. Sounds fine with most rock/alternative music, adds just the right amount of impact, though I'm sure the ghetto kids would argue it doesn't break glass so it's no good.

FYI: Ported enclosures for fastbacks and Sealed for coupes will give you the best bass

I ride with a single 12 in my coupe right now and I have heard the bazooka tubes before. I guess I would describe myself as a BIT of an audiophile and do not know what the tubes cost, but STILL wouldn't call them "worth the money" in comparison.

Too bad you have a coupe, subs in fastbacks sound way better.
Anyhow, I never had any experiences with Bazooka tube, but my friends say they sound like crap. I do however, have experience with JL W3s. They're high quality subs that can make your chest pound a little harder. W6s sound even better and kick a little harder, but W3s or even W0s get the job done. So if you want some decent sounding bass, I'd recommend JL subs.

So, right now I am running a 10" JL W0 in a sealed box in the back of my s13 coupe. I have 800 watts running it. It beats. :bigok: Loud enough to feel it everywhere in your body, and sounds clear, and not distorted. Its nice cause I can hardly hear any music from outside my car.
I have had my 1600 Watt amp wired bridged to this same sub, in a truck box, and I could not get it to pop or distort. They are crazy subs. $100 and warranty too!
I used to have 4 JL W0s in my standard cab s-10, and then I downgraded to 1 JL W0 and it sounded 50X better.
Before you bring your car anywhere to get it wired, research online. I am self taught. I have never had someone show me, I always show them. There are alot of places that explain how to wire car audio.
If you happen to be in the SB area, Ill wire for you. I enjoy it.
Just keep in mind the more, isn't always more.

Man, I'd drive to SB just to get it done/show me how to do it.
I think I'm gonna go with a 2x12 and another standalone amp for the subs, and use my existing 400w for the main components.
Anything think that's overkill?
I listen to music reeeeeeeeeeeeal loud....Industrial and classical. :D
(Let's hope my car doesnt vibrate itself off the road)

If your 400w amp isn't a D class it would probably work. Just make sure you get some nice components and don't turn the gain up too much. ;)

i got infiniti 5000cs component system in front and infiniti 2 way 6x9s in the back, all in a half gutted interior hatch, im somewhat interested in something that will add more bass, but yet lightweight and not visible (maybe something I can mount behind the seat?) Yah i know gutted car isnt really great for audio, but I get really crisp clean highs and mids, just want to add a lil more bass. Any affordible suggestions?
