how does wheels give you less power?
a smaller diameter wheel would in a sense give you LESS weight meaning more power to the wheels to spin but of course having a 15" rim that weights 100lbs vs a 16" at 25lb will mean its better to have the 16"
its about weight of the wheel.
but in reality it really isnt much of a difference. if you go from 15" to 18" you will notice a difference

They should save you a little weight but I wont be too much different, what are the wheels dimensions. IMO, I'd say stick with the 16's

and you should plan ahead when you go 300zx brake upgrades as well... just my 2 c. it's not like every 15 inch wheel could clear the 300zx brakes...

lol christ...i can't believe this guy hasn't been crucified yet. anyways, yea, wheel diameter has nothing to do with power. smaller wheels might help you accelerate a tad quicker as long as they are lighter than the stockies, but the difference is very small.
oh yea...hope you have a thick skin

most people in the ricer world do 18's....or 19's...or them dubs....LOL
Please....don't do it.
If anything, the highest I would go are some strong 17 inch wheels. 16 is good too but I tend to like the size of the tires and more flexibility in tire size that you have with 17's. It also really depends on what type of driving you want to do. Grip driving generally will be helped along by wider tires. But careful not to go tooo wide, don't want to be understeering off course.

Why?
Are you one of the guys who owns 20 inch wheels...weighing in at 70 pounds each? Without tires?
Is that why you're mad?

LOOK you newbie. These aren't your typical 18/19" chrome wheels you see on Navigators.
Going smaller than stock, that is gonna make your speedometer run faster, unless you run superswampers. Not a good idea iMO.

Why?
you realize the thread starter wants to buy *smaller* then stock wheels for his car, right?
him: 'i want to swap my 16"s for 15"s; would that be okay?'
you: 'HAY guys, dun get 20" whels dey are gay. lol wtf bbq!!!'
thank you for your random not very useful comments
zenki240sx... 15" is fine. assuming they aren't some uber heavy craptastic wheels, your car will probably feel a bit quicker and a tad bit more responsive.

whoa...not trying to start shit here. I know there are good wheels out there that are bigger. Jaez....men around here get haify quick.
Anyway...my real point, before people got into it was that you have all seen it. There are MANY men out there who enjoy those ridiculous rims which "look good" (although i would disagree) and they are useless rims. My friend's Supra runs 18 inch rims which are great. I was just trying to safeguard against those people. You know who I'm talking about so don't assume I'm trying to diss you or I'm making reference to your rims. "you need to be banned" after a comment doesn't really seem productive to me.
Anyone know the offset of Manaray MS-6 Hypers? They are 17x10 and 17x8.5
I mainly need the front offset.

damn, first you offend everyone, then jack this guys thread? good luck here mang...but 15s should be cool...dont expect any acceleration or anything...but expect major cush on turns...went from 17/45 series to 15/60 series because of an emergency...its poop...

Why would you degrade your size? Correct me if Im wrong please but if you add bigger rims like 18 for example your top speed with be better. There is a site where you calculate the tire size and rim and it gives you the slip. Pretty cool if you ask me :)

I dissagree.
Although I wouldn't buy 15s, on alot of cars, they look hot. I really like the way they look on 240's. 18's are excessive on s13's, IMO. I have seen them look good, but there are always exceptions. I origionaly was going to put 15-16's on mine, because usually they look really clean. Not excessive, or overdone. I ran across a set of 14's for a killer price. At first I NEVER would have even though about 14's, but they fit they look I am building twards. I am very happy with them, and will probibly keep them for a while. They are 14 X 6 -0 Offset, Appliance wheels :rawk: They are not exactly new, but for $30, Hell Yeah! (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=78492&page=8 Second post on the page)
I would suggest instead of first picking out your size, and then brand & model/style, that you first find a wheel you really like and then determine what size you want. Afterall, not all wheels come all sizes. You might pick out the size you want, and then the wheel you want wont fit.

Honeslty, I have found finding tires is reason enought to not stay with 16" wheels. I have been wondering how 15" wheel would look in person. Online they dont seem to look so bad but I need first hand knowledge. There are also a wide range of tires for that diameter wheel, and as long as you size the tire properly you wont have to recalibrate your speedo. I would strongly urge you to save money and just go out and buy a decent set of 17s. I think you will be happier that way.

i seriously hope you're joking
everything else being equal, a bigger wheel is heavier. even if you have a higher top speed, its going to take you longer to get there.

they look way too small for a s14. but i would rock them with winter tires in the snow.

The amount of power you'll get depends on how big of a gerbel you've got in the wheel...
Haha seriously though, don't forget to factor in things like: will these clear Z-brakes with XX offset (if you're planning that upgrade in the future), how much do they weigh compared to other sizes or models, and make sure you're getting the right offset for the width (so we don't have to read another 'will these fit' thread :p).
i have the stock 16in. rims on my car and the rims i want to purchase are 15in. would that give me less power? or would it nnot make a difference?

chmercer likes to make broad all-encompassing statements about anything that is different from what he personally puts on his "drift" car. Usually he doesn't come back to debate the actual merits, so you get use d to ignoring it.
Miatas and ae86's run 15's all the time to great effect, and so do Civics at the track/autoX
Smaller wheel = better gearing, acceleration, less weight, cheaper tires
Bigger wheel = overall higher top speed, brake clearance, sometimes better tire size selection
16's have the crappiest tire selection now, so if you have a small car, you must run 15's, and if you have a medium-large car, you must run 17's or 18's to get good tires.

Dude just stick with 16's. I heard from a lotta different people that its good to go 1 above stock. I on the other hand have fender flares so I need to go bigger in order for it to be flush. But a friend of mine told me...the smaller the wheel the faster it spins (taking that the weight is the same)
Its like skateboarding. When I ride 50mm wheels they spin fast as hell compared to those off-road wheels.

anyone have that link where they test 15/16/17/18 inch wheels on a autox course and the bigger the faster they got? yeaaaa
15 are way too small, 16s are a touch too small with gay tires
17s or 18s are the way to go imo
anyone that runs 14s or aftermarket 15s should be shot

18s are too big up front IMO. I drove the TF 180 with 18s up front and its a big load on the PS, overheated mid turn and just fealt wierd. I guess a lot of it had to do with the track we were on, small and lots of steering.
I'll stick with 17s up front.

15s and such are good on miatas and corollas and such, my statment wasnt directed toward that. just that, in general, i hate 15s on 240s. too small, makes the tire too damn big.

sweet! I am going to get shot!!!!
Everyone here fails to realize that wheels aren't half as important as the tires they sit on.
Step #1 choose a tire you want to run
Step #2 look at sizes
Step #3 decide on a cost/grip basis which size of said tire you want to run
Step #4 finally after you have a tire picked out, choose a wheel that fits/clears suspension/brakes/etc.
if Step #4 fails, return to Step #1
Its so fucking simple, but everyone goes for bling first, and puts aesthetics as step 1.
I run 14" wheels.... because rallycross tires are dirt fucking cheap in 14" sizes.
I run 15" wheel at autocross.... because I can get used R compounds from miata and honda folk for dirt cheap/free and my car doesnt make enough power to care.
So to the original question, 15s would be a better choice because there are far more performance tires available for a cheaper price in 15" sizes right now, than what will fit stock 16" tires.

I can't believe how many dumb statements there are in this thread. 18s will not get you a higher top speed. Your top speed will be higher if you run a taller tire, not necessarily because you have a larger wheel. A 225/60-15 tire is taller than a 235/35-18, so in this case, you would get a higher top speed with the 15s. Also, larger wheels are generally heavier wheels, and you will almost certainly notice slower acceleration if you go from 15s to 18s
