View Full Version : Master Guide for Aftermarket Seats

Inspired by the Master Guide for Wheels (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=82859&highlight=wheel+guide), I thought we could do something similar for aftermarket driver's seats. This is, of course, a self-interested post, because I am in the process of trying to pick out a new driver's seat and have been searching here and digging through websites trying to find definitive info. I figure if everyone with aftermarket seats (other than S14 in S13, or R32/R33 seats; I mean like Bride, Recaro, etc) can fill in according to this formula, all of us looking for seats will have a better idea of what we are getting into, and will help those searching in the future.

1. S13/S14/sunroof
2. Seat Manufacturer/Model
3. Price of seat
4. Bucket/reclinable
5. Bracket used
6. Bracket mods required
7. Driver's height and weight
8. Headroom ok?
9. How does seat fit you, ie will someone bigger/smaller fit ok?
10. Pics :coold:

Bride has a new line called LOW MAX, which able to make the driver seat really low which is good for 6ft tall people. Im 5'10 and I think the regular bride zeta's seat pretty low already, how much more for the LOW MAX seats

HEres a pic of the VIoS III LOW MAX

Those low max seats are running around 760 for the seats themselves. It would be great for tall people but I am also in the category of "I need a wide seat". I sat in some Brides before and my balls were pinned together, not comfy.

out of curiosity.........since most of you guys posting up are taller........do you feel that these seats will also fit somebody who is 5'6" and 150lbs??? (not 150lbs of fat either......in case that makes any difference)

so far i've sat in a number if different seats (can't remember them all) and the Buddy Club Racing Spec has been the most comfortable.......its easy to get into and out of for a daily driven car yet it was still extremely supportive all around

thanx in advance

I've seen them online but for like around $880, for that price I'd just go with the Vios III "low max" seats. If they have problems with clearance in an S13, I'll just cry..

Every place i've seen online, i call them and they say "oh we havent updated our page. its not available" Which doesnt surprise me cuz it is from the old line which is discontinued. So thats why I've been looking for a used one, but i havent caught one yet. I'll find one one of these days!

Just wondering why I see more aftermarket bucket seats than adjustable ones? Is everyone a full time racer or drifter? doesn't anyone like a little tilt/gangster lean for long drives? or you could even be waiting for your wife or girlfriend in a parking lot and feel the need for reclining!

Dousan_PG

the maxis/zeig/zetaII alreayd have the 'gansta lean' i also set the front bracket bolt up higher then then the rear for more lean
i hate sitting straight up
so easy to fall asleep in always end up falling asleep in the bucket
its like being hugged the whole time, so warm and comfy!! :)

Lol.. Didn't somebody with an S13 no sunroof say they didn't have alot of room with the Zeta III? Wow... this whole seat predicament is confusing me. But hey, if your 6ft 220lb.. I'm sure I could fit in with a helmet as I'm 5'11. Is the Zeta III L a "lower" seat?

Zeta L (Large), it'll fit bigger/taller people like that guy. If you're interesed on a Zeta III, Im selling a used(only used ONCE) w/ gradtaion for 700.

Also i have an s13(no sunroof)with a zeta 3 and I still have head rooom in there

That guy probably still has it because he can't part with it and didn't sit in it before buying.
I'm 200 lbs and 6 feet tall and if I had to sit in a Zeta III Type L everyday I'd fucking shoot myself.

Zeta III Type L WILL NOT FIT anyone over id say around 170 lbs at 6 feet tall.
The shoulders don't fit properly.
The hips won't really fit. When you sit in it at my size... you have to stretch the bucket around your bones and then it fucking pinches you the whole drive.

i have myself an OMP WRC seat and let me tell you, it is infuckingcredible. holds my like a GLOVE. i love it mucho. on to the stats:

1. S13 with pop up roof.
2. OMP Fiberglass WRC
3. list is $779. got mine used from a co-worker for 150 :)
4. Bucket
5. custom brackets using OEM slider.
6. bracket mods required- cutting, trimming, drilling, grinding, ripping apart brackets of oem seat.
7. 5'8 130lbs
8. has enough head room for me w/o helmet. might need some modificationg to fit a helmet comfortably. i'd say i have 3-4" of room. less on the left side of my head though.... stupid sunroof :(
9. i would recomend this seat with the bride fg rails if you are too much taller than i am. i think even i am going to try them. i kinda like sitting a little higher though. awsome foot placement for heeltoe. keep in mind i wear a 30" waist but i think up to about a 36-38" waist could fit in, just might be a little tight.

Nope, not at all... i have about 1 1/2" before the glass. door clearance is no problem.

Yeah it looks you should have bought a rail or something instead of making one. Whatever works for you though.

(I think I would have to have my head tilted when I drive)

Like i said, it is a bit high, definatly not for anyone over 5'9. and i also said i was thinking of getting the bride fg rails... see if they help lower it a bit more. works incredible for now though. hopefully the next 2 purchases will be a weld lockd diff v3 and the megan coilovers. after that i will check out lower rails, for now though its 1283718273877 times better then stock (and around the same price for good s14 seats) so i aint complaining.

Well, I think I found seats for myself....after sitting in numerous models of numerous brands (none of which fit me), I went to my semi-local Porsche / Recaro dealer, who have the entire Recaro lineup in the showroom. I sat in a few and fell in love with the Pole Position:

http://www.gw-autosattlerei.de/images/Recaro/Motorsport/PolePosition_schwarz.jpg

I never thought I would go for a bucket, but this one is damn comfy, surprising since I am 6'3, 200 lbs. It's a little tight in the shoulders for me, but no problem.

Now I just have to get it to fit.

The Recaro side mount brackets might work with some custom fabbing...dealer said they have an Wedge bracket in S13 application, but I figured if it were that easy everybody here would be all over it, and I never see it, so...

That's the exact setup I'll be installing next weekend. However, neither Recaro nor Nagisa provided me with the bolts to attach the seat to the bracket. Any idea on the size for those?

I bummed the bronze colored bolts holding my stock seat onto the stock rails- they fit. If you don't want to do that do the home depot match up a bolt trip with one of those.

9. Seat fits me perfect but can't fit a finger between my hips and seat.
10. Pics coming tonight! (To give you an idea, look at Bomex180's red zetaIII and lower it another 4")

The only other thing I had to do for install was bang out some of my floor. The bride FX bracket puts the seat SOO low that the bottom of my seat hits the floor. If it's headroom you're looking for get the FX bracket from bride.

As for the low max seats, they look cool but there is no way they will get much lower than my seat, as mine already hit the floor until I banged it out. It's more or less the bracket that puts the seat down low.

I put the front bolts up a notch higher like Aaron mentioned, it reclines bucket seats more than enough to be comfortable, and LOL, it's a lot like being hugged non-stop. I think mine's super comfy.

4. Bucket
5. Nagisa
6. None to rail itself; however, slide lever was hitting the trunk/gas filler release lever, so I had to remove the plastic cover off the trunk release lever and slot the bracket to move to it down a bit. Also there is a weld nut on the inner seat rail to reattach the oem lap belt, but there is no way it would fit between the seat and the center console, so I ditched the lap belt, using lap belt from 5 pt harness + oem shoulder belt on the street.
7. 6'3, 200 lbs

I've had like 7 seats, and Bride fits me the best.
-Recaro pole position in my GTi
-Sparco Rev in my FC
-S14 seat in my S13
-Sparco Sprint in my S13
-Skyline GTR seat in my S13
-Recaro Speed in my S13
-Bride Brix/Ergo in my S13

and now my Zeta III... which is the greatest by far. I used to not like Brides because they were so expensive, so I tried everything else. When I sat in a Brix I loved it. When I upgraded to my Zeta, I loved it even more. Best seat ever...

For the rail, pick up a "whack ass bride" MO type.

Well, that's the place where I see most 240 owners place them. It doesn't go straight down. It's sort of at a 45degree angle from where it enters the top of the seat. I mounted them at the stock rear seatbelts should be mounted. Is there another mounting point I should know about?

Here's a pic of it. This is the passenger side but have taken my passenger side harness off since. It's the same as the driver side, you get the point.

6. Bracket mods required: Oval front 2 holes, Front celicas are flat mount 240s are angled mount. V cut bracket fronts and bend down @ matching angle then tack weld for strength after. Tranny tunnel mount is perfect, Outside edge rear corner needs to be cut off with a cut off wheel/ saw then rewelded @ a 90 degree angle from where it comes out (angles towards the outside edge but the hole is towards the back of the seat) Also seats sit crooket, for proper geometry and comfort a raised block about 1.250" is required to raise the rear outside corner
7. Driver's height and weight 6 foot 190lbs
8. Headroom ok? not much different than stock, sits BARELY higher

Note: side srs doesnt matter with these. In my case it cleared the interior perfectly fine but it would fit with or without.
note2: Seat rails drag on the rug if you want to mount them lower like I did so it can take a little more efford to adjust your seat forward and back (like it matters anyways)
note3: drivers blind spot is increased with these because they are a very wide high back making it a bit harder to see.

Actually the belts should be mounted within 20 degrees of horizontal. See "Belt routing"
here (http://www.schroth.com/installation-instructions/en/index.html). The way you have it is not safe nad would definitely not pass tech inspection. You should get a harness bar.

schroth makes a y-harness that is made to bolt to the rear seatbelt mounts. also, it is the only street-legal harness. as far as i know, with this specific harness, a harness bar is not needed. they sell for like 150$ and i believe the model is called the "eRally" or something to that effect.

Thank you for your response. I will look into the Zeta III type S. Do you know of any place that has them on display that will allow me to sit in it, and feel how it feels prior to purchase? Because I'd hate to purchase a seat to find that the seat is too big or too small. I visited Super Autobacs in Los Angeles when they first opened in 2003 if I remember correctly, and noticed some racing seats on display where customers can sit in to try it out. I wouldn't personally purchase anything big (as in price-wise) from Autobacs, like racing seats though, because everything is so expensive there compared to other stores. But being able to test fit a seat before ordering would be awesome.

7. 6' 200lbs.
8. plenty (no sunroof)
9. No bigger than I would fit comfortably. Shoulder bolsters could be wider, but I have broad shoulders. Buddy of mine fits perfectly in them.
10. Added below

About the rails: as has been discussed before the Bride MO bolts up perfectly but rail is slightly angled for some reason and put the seat up against the door and angled slightly in. Just have to cut the welds on the bottom brackets and reweld them about 1" to the right and straighten out the angle on the seat.
It sits pretty high due to the very thick ass padding, especially thick behind the knees. Had to raise the steering wheel up to be comfortable. Could be lowered by banging down the hump in the floor and lowering the rails.
Seat is pretty damn comfortable, and pretty supportive for a reclinable.
A person with broad shoulders interested in these should look into the original SRD 's, nearly identical but wider/bigger shoulder bolsters and slightly shorter seat.

you'd think so, but it's amazing with alot of people who seemed to not-come-up-with-all-the-money-last-minute...

so i just decide to let it chill at home (not using it), i'll post it up in the for sale section again one of these days...

but to make this post relevant to the thread, yeah, the zieg seat is for thinner people, it'll crush yo nuts if you're somewhat bottom heavy, can't imagine seating in it if you're a size 40+...

I am thinking about buying a Bride Brix II seat and some MO rails.
In the stock seat I have problemes with helmet/roof clearance.
It works but I have to have the seat more leaned than i like (I like sitting close to the wheel). I'm not very tall 5'7" (170cm) will I have this problem with the Brix/MO setup?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to get across here besides that wrecks hurt, but just to clear up any misconceptions that still may remain after trackstar's post....

IT'S NOT SAFE TO MOUNT YOUR HARNESS (aside from that handy Schroth design previously mentioned) TO YOUR REAR SEATBELT BOLTS, OR TO ANY MOUNTING POINT LOWER THAN 20* FROM HORIZONTAL.
BUY A HARNESS BAR. PERIOD. Your FIA-approved seat and 5-point anti-submarining harness aren't going to make you any safer when you ignore the basic principles their design is based on when you do the install.

1. S13/with sunroof
2. Sparco Sprint
3. somewhere around $200 shipped I think
4. Bucket
5. Bride MO
6. none, Bride bracket is costly but nice to have.I only had to buy 2 10x1.5?(Ill look it up later) bolts for the back two holes on the seat, bride included ones for the front two holes.
7. 5 7 170
8. Headroom ok? yup
9. Its not uncomforable, but Ive sat in better seats. But the price was right
10. Ill get pics if my I can ever get my camera back

The only thing I can say that Im not really happy about with the Sprint/Bride MO setup is; as short as I am when I have the seat in a position to where my feet feel good on the pedals the steering wheel needs to be moved up more then Id like it to be. Its not as bad as a semi steering wheel but if I place it where I normally do it rubs my legs.

reclinables and buckets use different rails

but the answre is the same in either for most seat brands (if they fit the seat):

A) custom
B) BRIDE

1. S13 Moonroof
2. Recaro Pole Position
3. $649 @ hmsmotorsport.com
4. Fiberglass Bucket
5. Nagisa Rails
6. No modifications to rails
7. 5'5"; 38" waist, 210 lb.
8. Lots of headroom w/o helmet. 1 inch or so w/ helmet
9. I consider myself rather large and I feel like I have the perfect frame for this seat. It feels like a moderate hug all around and I don't move around at all during hard cornering. Anyone larger than 38" might not fit. Shoulders are also perfect. Although, a friend with a similiar waist to my own and is about 6'4" had issues with the shoulder portion, but the waist and the butt area was fine.

3. Price of seat

5. Bracket used

6. Bracket mods required

None, but the seat tilted to the left from a bird's eye view. I had to force the seat to open up to the right to get a cleaner line to the gas pedal.

I set the front to the lowest setting and the rear to the middle. The gangster lean is in full effect.

7. Driver's height and weight

5 feet 11, 220 pounds

8. Headroom ok?

Wonderful with and without a helmet.

9. How does seat fit you, ie will someone bigger/smaller fit ok?

It fits tight on the waist area. I plan on losing at least 20 pounds so I can fit alot more comfortably. The shoulder area is wonderful.

Iv sat in a lot of seats but this is by far most comfy bride seat.
Bride Gias Lowmax Carbon Kevlar. (softer without the gradation material)
Higher front leg cushion.
I have driven 20 Hours+ straight, with minor brakes in this seat.
Uses the Bride Gias Lowmax Rail(lowest bottom mount rail out there)
Worth its msrp

It could be lower, like the VIOS III with Low Max Side Mount rail (one of the lowest buckets out there.

hey guys,

ive been lookin around for a seat that would fit nicely...so i thought i'd give a shot asking here. Im 6'1" about 190lbs...thing is..the hips are a little wide..so fitting into bucket seats is kinda a pain for me. ive ridden in bride ergo I's before, and couldnt take very long of it...same goes for sparco bucket seats. I know the bride xax is out there...but i'd like something with a little more support for the legs. I've been told to look into recaro...any thoughts/ideas?

I'm having trouble finding a seat for someone as skinny as me and still fit me snug. And my definition of snug is probably tight for most of you.

Back on topic I'm 5' 10" and 120 lbs with a 29" waist. I know, I'm like an anorexic whore. But cant for the life of me figure out which seats are the skinniest. I'm interested in recaros mainly, but like brides as well.

6. Bracket mods required

7. Driver's height and weight

5'-10" 160lbs

8. Headroom ok?

Plenty of Head Room. Mounted in the car to check.

9. How does seat fit you, ie will someone bigger/smaller fit ok?

Perfect fit because i do like a little space for my legs to move for heel/toe. Fits perfect in the sholder area (I have broad shoulders), back area and a little loose in the waist. However, i have a more atheletic build where my thighs need more room than waist, so it fits perfect in the thigh area. It would fit a larger person like a glove. Anyone smaller than me definately needs to go with their standard seat size. I chose to go a little more comfort than a tight squeeze.

I am pretty sure these rails were meant for Buddy Club seats. The front will only go as low as the middle setting. Also the bar used to adjust the rail will not fit. Its a pain in the ass trying to adjust once installed. The rear of the seat does go to the lowest setting and sits pretty low... too low for my taste when I tried it. I have both in the middle settings and I still have plenty of headroom with my helmet.

I love the seat<333333

You can see how much headroom i have in this pic.

Just wondering why I see more aftermarket bucket seats than adjustable ones? Is everyone a full time racer or drifter? doesn't anyone like a little tilt/gangster lean for long drives? or you could even be waiting for your wife or girlfriend in a parking lot and feel the need for reclining!

side mount rails allow for gangster lean mount the front higher then the rear my passenger side has tons of lean

bride FG or nagisa auto LP rails will work on recaro.

if its a side mount seat, any side mount seat rail should work.

Im an idiot. Bride Low Max seat + Nams/Nagisa rails = Good to go?

I'm having trouble finding a seat for someone as skinny as me and still fit me snug. And my definition of snug is probably tight for most of you.

Back on topic I'm 5' 10" and 120 lbs with a 29" waist. I know, I'm like an anorexic whore. But cant for the life of me figure out which seats are the skinniest. I'm interested in recaros mainly, but like brides as well.

I have JIC buckets and they are small and inexpensive I dunno who sells them but I like them more than any seat I have been in and they are comfy too. I am about 5"9 and 145 and 30 waist

Seat fits absolutely perfect for someone my size and height. The sparco Evo 2 plus is a bit wider in the hips than the standard evo and 1 inch taller in the seatback --hence the "plus" designation. I would highly recommend this seat to any taller drivers near my dimensions. I sat in a ton of seats and this was the most comfy. custom install is a must givent the width of this seat. If you try to put it in the s14 without any modification it is a bit too wide and will hit the center console or door. Spend the extra money to have a competent shop do a custom install with welding and cutting out the floor on the driver side (I am basically sitting on the floor) and this seat is a tall driver's dream.

I'm having some serious issues with my seat.

I'm 6'2", 190lbs but I have hips like a woman and big thighs from years of running.

Right now I have a Bride XAX II, it sits low, is reclinable and I have plenty of headroom.

The problem is that during drift event I find myself constantly bracing myself with my left knee slammed against my door panel. My knee ends up black and blue after a day of driving.

I tried sitting in a Brix II but its so narrow I can literally only get one ass check in that seat.

I need something with higher bolsters that will sit super low. HELP!

Im wanting to get a set of Bride Vios III sport seats... being 6'2 and having a sunroofed s13 coupe fitting a helmet on my peanut aint cutting it.
Im wondering which rail would sit me lower:

1) Bride FG rail [not a low max rail]
2) Bride LF rail [low max rail]
3) Nagisa XNSR011L

Bride says to use the LF rail, but it looks like I can get lower out of an FG rail, if anyoen could chime in that would be great.

Compliments of driftwolrd.com. Currently right now I am using Bride Vios III with a buddy club rail, however I used the brackets from a Nagisa rail. Headroom is nearly identical to stock. (can go one notch lower on rear bracket. Going to check room with this setup compared to Nagisa rails in the next couple of days.

You just pretty much cleared up exactly what I was trying to find out. I just bought a Bride Low Max Gias seat and was deciding between 3 different types of rails:

1.Bride Super Low Seat Rail
2.Buddy Club Super Low Down Rails as shown in the pics
3.Nagisa Auto Rails.

Please comment on which rails you would suggest. Help would be much appreciated. I'm about the same height as you. Need to know ASAP as I will be ordering rails very soon. Any extra info would be helpful.

Reviving thread,
Wondering anyone have any experience with Stradia II or Gias II
that is 5'8-5'10, 160-180 lbs, 34" waist? how does it feel sitting in both seats?

want to know experience from those who sat in both Gias and Stradia and the holding of each one? and comfort? don't care for how difficult it is for getting in and out. just seat experience, does the stradia hold enough or is it better to have the gias for the extra hold? mainly used for weekend track use mostly street use.

I have to go off internet reviews, being there isn't a shop here that has them in stock.

IF i were to go bucket then I'm looking to go with Zeta III then what size would I need? the L?

My size:
Height:~5'11"
Weight:~200lbs
Waist:36" pants size. (a tad tighter is ok considering it's a bucket seat)
Shirt size (for shoulders): L-XL (only cause of my belly)

But I do like a tight supportive fit for seats.

Currently running a Sparco Evo 2 and I don't like it, sits way too high even after I put it on fixed bracket, no sliders.

Looking to get Bride Zieg 3 + Bride FG rails.

Anyone have similar or same setup ? Trying to figure out sizing before I pull the trigger on ordering

BRIDE also makes a version that's side mount that has the bucket sit in center opening. It actually works very well. The locking mechanism for it is pretty small too if you wanted to retain sliding.

I wonder if either the Bride or Nagisa rails sits lower than the other. Both are considered to be the lowest sliding mounts available for these cars. If there's any difference, it's only going to be a few mm. Both of these rails essentially sit on the floor of the car. The difference would be in the material thickness and the design of the sliders.

SupaDoopa
09-19-2016, 03:37 PM
I actually had a few of each and I'd personally say that the Nagisa was lower but nearly negligible. For those that need a few millimeters that separate you from comfortable to not, I'd go Nagisa.

Since this was revived, I'll add some more:

Corbeau FX-1 Pro
I'm 5'10"
34-35* waist
180 lbs

Panted fixed bracket (425Motorsports):
http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/di-devol/Mobile%20Uploads/20170325_170553_zps4oxh9bdz.jpg

Planted sat lower than Nagisa Sliders, I liked it, was the lowest I've had. Fitment was perfect, just had to drill spots for either the front or rear side bracket mounts. Only issue was there is no bracket for the buckle.

Same seat with Street Faction fixed bracket:
http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/di-devol/Mobile%20Uploads/received_733866253449082_zpsdqllv1ef.jpeg
http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/di-devol/Mobile%20Uploads/20170412_105531_zpsq5rnotic.jpg

I just switched to the SF brackets because I wanted the buckle bracket. SF brackets are fucking nice as fuck, super pretty. Fitment was on point, no drilling required, much more adjustment than the Planted bracket. It is about 3/4" HIGHER than the planted, about the same as Nagisa sliders.

There is plenty of room to make the seat lower if the bracket had more slots on it. I might actually just drill some holes in the rear and drop it some more.
