How well will bondo stick to metal if it is ever so slightly rusted, or how about pretty rusted?
thanks guys

if you have a can of Bondo body filler look on the back. it says: 'For rust-outs in metal, use Bondo Glass or Bondo Hair'....
i havent delt with them but you might wanna give those a try.

if you properly prep the metal there won't be any rust on it...
if that hint is too subtle here's another one:
DO NOT PUT BONDO OVER UNPREPPED RUSTY METAL UNLESS YOU LIKE WASTING MONEY AND MAKING YOUR CAR LOOK WORSE THAN IT IS.

is it really so hard to take some sand paper and sand off all that rust?
sand it down, clean it off with a tar wax remover and THEN bondo it

You can also buy all Bondo products at Home Depot. Cheaper than most places.

of course im going to prep it, but certain spots are harder to get than others
im bondoing over some parts i welded on the roof, when i say rust im talking really small spots near the welds

it might just be some surface rust. try and get to it as much as possible and then use rust converter on it.

if u buy any bondo more then 10 bucks a gallon u guys got ripped off..... if its over that it better be some premium shit with no needed of any kind of additive, but what ever..... cant get rust of use a grinder... if its fully rusted thru then hmm iono.. patch.. or use fiberglass...
on a personal note i would never buy the brand "BONDO" body filler.. that shit is crap.. like real crap..... 1st time i bought a gallon.. mixed it applied it and then thru it in the trash..... evercoat is good, 3m is okay... u know u should add some additive in bondo while ur mixing it and u only add 10% of cream hardner... anything more then that, would lessen ur open window of application,
and i would laugh when ur trying to shape a rock hard filler.........lol

or a steel brush, I use that during my welding class to clean up the surface. plus if you leave it exposed to elements at least try to apply some rust inhibitor until you have time to tackle it

u need to put scratches in the metal so the bondo has bite....

Steel brushes work good but if its a lot of rust it turns into a lot of work with a brush. Get something that spins fast and sand it right off.
I have 2 welders and a crap load of rust but i dont know if taking some metal off my fender and welding it on my s13s quarter panel will work good. Rust really sucks... especially when you dont see it coming on a newer cars my s14 has some... :wtc:

this is stupid. its metal, grind it. if it isn't almost smooth you're putting too much bondo on anyhow. bondo is to FINISH bodywork, not DO bodywork. difference? yeah, the more bondo you use the more you have to feather and the more likely you'll screw it up.
WELD, GRIND, BONDO, FEATHER, PRIMER, FINISH, PAINT
skip one of those and you will regret it or don't care enough.
