It's finally official, as of last saturday, I'm no longer a member of the Nissan camp. As much as I liked my 240, I like this a helluva lot more!

It's got some mods, short shifter, rear STB, boost gauge, Hotchkis springs, Rota Tarmac rims, Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires, and stainless brake lines. I've got more plans in store, and will hopefully be able to complete them once I sell some of the items I've got up for sale.

WRX has the funniest idle and it sounds funny... it sounds like a car with a blown head gasket, it studders...... but they are nice cars to drive.....

Yeah, WRX's do sound quite intimidating though. I just don't like how the motor looks. It's so messy.

Aftermarket wheels solve the narrow problem, and the tranny just has to be treated differently. The thing to realize is that, while, when an RWD or FWD will break traction when mistreated, an AWD won't and the stress is transferred to the drivetrain.

As for exhaust, I'm thinking of getting a downpipe and uppipe, and maybe redoing the piping, but I want to keep the stock muffler. I'll get a bit more sound, and it'll still look stock.

Get the Subaru Brospeed exhaust. My buddy has it on a 2004 2.5RS and it sounds amazing. Looks stock, its not too much louder, never a cop problem, and oh god the sound is amazing. Brospeed all the way for the WRX

Car looks great! Is there some reason why you went with the WRX and ditched the 240? I was going to buy a WRX last year, and I couldn't handle how little torque it had before the turbo spooled up. Either way, it's a slick car, and those wheels look perfect on it.

As for the Brospeed exhaust, a friend of mine has one on his '04 WRX and it sounds perfect. It compliments the car, looks almost completely stock and is not intrusive at all.

I used to like the WRX more but the only one that I'd get now is the STI.

Also, it is very hard to get the car to look nice when modified. I have to admit I've seen more ugly modified WRXs than nice ones.

Yeah, haha, I totalled the 240 last winter! Got a new job, had a down available, so I was able to spend the 18 this car set me back. I coulda paid less if i'd found one at a private seller and not a dealer, but I didn't want to deal with the trouble of getting financing for a private sale, and dealing with a private seller, etc.

As for the lag and low end, there's actually a reason for it. It's the stupid emissions. The WRX has three cats, in the downpipe, in the uppipe, and in the midpipe. I'm going to be getting an aftermarket UP and DP, and the Cobb Accessport, running the stage 2 map on the AP, I'll be making about 280 at the crank, and there'll be much less lag. Pretty damn good for under a grand, if I can say so myself! Also gonna pull the resonator, and drop in a panel filter, if I didn't mention that, and also getting the fattest rear sway I can get my hands on.

Appearance-wise, very little will be done to this car. Ride height isn't going any lower, as that'll kill the ability to rallycross, and the only external mods I'm planning on are the Prodrive front lip, which will be satin black to match the skirts, JDM black headlights, and a pair of STi knockoff foglight grilles/covers. You're right in that the WRX doesn't look good with major external mods. I think it's that the car is relatively large looking for its size, so bodykits, etc, don't look right because they make up a small portion of the car, unlike a 240 where they can change the whole look of the car. Of course, I think part of it, also, is that the stock bumper is so agressive looking that an aftermarket one is just over the top.

BTW: Does the newer Imprezas still have messed up trannys like the older 2.5 RS? I knew a guy who had a Suby WRX and his tranny was warped after owning only a few months (and he didn't even push it).

looks good man..are those samco or perrin intercooler hoses? they look aftermarket..those things are annoying to install, well at least the perrin ones. the hose that goes from the intercooler to the throttle body is frustrating to get on...anyway man, good find, subies are awesome, and as far as wrx's sounding "funny"..i think not, boxers sound amazing..imo in the sound dept. boxer>rotary. Today a whole bunch of subie guys got together for an install day/bbq...funtimes, but i drive a corolla, so i get no love there, i had parts to install but unfortunately the subie guys were hoggin all the equipment.

WTF? I didn't sell my 240, I totalled it. I still like a nice clean 240, and if I could spend that 18k on a car and the mods and work to make it really clean and reliable again, I'd make one helluva S13, but I didn't have that option.

On the other end of the spectrum, I bought an '02 because it was what I could afford. It actually came in at less than 18, closer to 17 after negotiations. I like the bugeyes better, anyway, the headlights are iffy but the overall front end is so much better, as are the taillights. Gotta love those huge fogs!

I sold my white 2004 WRX Sedan to buy my 98 S14 because I missed RWD, but the WRX was still a great car. How's the shifter, is it a pain to shift compared to your 240? Mine certainly was.

Watch that tranny man, '02s have all kinds of tranny issues. I don't care what *anyone* tells you, it is NEVER ok to drop the clutch in that car, not even once, slip it every time, or you WILL blow that gearbox straight to Mars.

Get it out in the dirt where it belongs, and by all means, get a big exhaust, nothing sounds like an uncorked boxer engine. I'd stick with light tuning, maybe 280-300 crank HP. Any more than that and you're going to want a beefier transmission, and you may as well just buy an STI with the 6MT.

It's already got the most important WRX mod on it...TIRES. Those stock Potenza RE92's are GARBAGE.

These tires suck too. Overheat like crazy, as do the pads. It's fast in the canyons, though, I'm already 20sec faster uphill than I was with the 240, and downhill, interestingly enough, I'm almost a minute faster. As I say, though, need some Kumhos and some Hawks, kill that fade. I'm going to go turboback and uppipe, and do some engine management, should get about 280 out of it.

And, of course, dirt is the plan for this car. Gotta get some better suspension, though, stock shocks and lowering springs aren't exactly optimal for this kinda thing. I'd sorta like to make this car into a rough copy of it's JDM STi equivelants.
