Hi, i'm looking at a 96 240 with 77K on it, the guy wants $6500 for it pretty firm, car in ok shape he is in NY.

the motor sounds funny, he says its beacuse its a truck engine (suposedly). do they all have a knocking noise to them, please help ASAP need to get back to him

1. is the noise supposed to be there?
2. is the car worth that price?

thanx

knocking?  could be bad
clanking?  check timing chain/chain guides
clicking?  noisy injectors; normal...no problem

As for price, check kbb; but sounds reasonable to me if it's in decent condition.

I bought a 95 S14 last month with 116,000 miles, and although the engine doesn't run as smooth as my last car. There is no knocking. The price doesn't sound bad but I would have it looked at by a mechanic before I jumped in head first.

although '96 240 is a beautiful rare car, that knockin noise is very discomforting.  It can be a whole buch of things.  If you're really going to buy the car, spend a little money and take it to a nissan dealer for a check up.  don't get the basic test.  All they do in a basic test is drive the car on the road which is crap...  i think they got a package for $150 where they inspect everything and tell you exactly what's wrong with the car.

hey, where about do you live?  I know of a guy in Chicago who's selling his '98 240sx for $8900. check it out on autotrader.
