I enjoy Stanley Kubrick. These are his two best films IMO.
Who else has suggestions?

Apocolypse Now, both normal and REDUX!
And that other movie with the Martins son, Charley Shene (sp?), they go to cambodia and fight a war.
Really good stuff I caught a little of it not to long ago on IFC. Umm Lock Stock is always cool, I didn't like Snatch too much but it was good for a laugh or two.
Kill bill series too!
I like the Ocean Series too (11, 12) 12 isn't out just yet but 11 is always good times. Err, I like a few Japanese films too, but unless your into gorry stuff you won't like it. I'm not familiar with netflicks but if they DVDs from previos shows I would look inot that. I'm thinking of "kicking ol' school", like Slimer Hi-c and Luncahbles old, by getting Batman: The animated series Dvd's. Awesome!
Oh just saw the Independent thing: Reservoir dogs, Pulp Fiction, Fear and Loathing. Check IFC's rosster they usually haev good films, excpet Reqreium for a dream-- I think that movie i was all hype.
Play video games, I know they have that Video game deal by mail too!
Ok now you come to So. cal and paint my car.

Oldboy- Korean movie and is the ultimate revenge movie
Irreversible-quite unforgettable and disturbingly powerful
Raising Arizona- one of the most brilliant comedies ever
Millers Crossing- epic gangster flick
Fargo- new film noir american Classic
The last 3 are Coen Brother films. Honestly Coen Brothers does not have a SINGLE bad movie...even O Brother Where Art Thou was good :D
expand your horizons and try to rent foreign films...I never looked on Netflix or use it, i usually buy my foreign films....the AFI film lists are what is considered "must see classic" and they truly are classics and must see...
if you really want a mind trip experience, try renting a Shinya Tsukamoto flick (Iron Man, Tokyo Fist, Bullet Ballet) Hes essentially the David Lynch of Japan times 10!!!! David Lynch, Dave Cronenberg, David Fincher, Kubrick, Hitchcok, Aronofsky, Spike Jonze all have solid movies

Brother - Takeshi Kitano and Omar Epps was a real good one imo
Tremors - Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward...kind of older but still a good movie only the original though
Ichi the Killer - that was just a crazy japanese movie, kind of disturbing
Pulp Fiction - I can't believe nobodys mentioned that yet
Edward Scissorhands - You've probably seen it but still a great movie
15 Minutes - Robert DeNiro and Edward Burns really good movie
And the Ultimate Classics...
The Professional - Jean Reno, if you haven't seen this one go find a tall building and jump off of it
Ronin - Robert DeNiro, a classic foreign style action film one of the greatest car chases ever filmed.
That's all I can think of for now...maybe more later

You people really like requiem? It had a damn Marlan brothers in it!! The highlight was the perverse use of smack and then adverse effects of it (dudes arm at the end). If that didn't make you sick, I don't what to say.
Norcal guy; Umm I'll see what I can do, no promises but I shall ask around.
Right almost all Deniro films(Fuck meet the parents!, City by the Sea), I was so pissed when the power went out at my house the one day I had time to watch TV-- Deer hunter was on IFC. Fucking great acting, Deniro+Chris walken, what's not to like?
Speaking of J filsm I want to add Dead or Alive to my collection, anyone now if its worth getting the trilogy?
you mean Wayans brother..

Speaking of J filsm I want to add Dead or Alive to my collection, anyone now if its worth getting the trilogy?
the Dead or Alive trilogy is very VERY challenging to watch, as all Takashi Miike films are...its just truly bizarre, very SLOW, but Miike makes very memorable scenes so powerful while making the entire plotline forgettable....I dont want to spoil any of it for you, but the ending on teh first one just makes you say "WTF is going on here" then get all kinds of mixed reactions/feelings..... Miike films are not oscar worthy, but he is what a rebel filmmaker is all about by bending conventional rules, bizarre characters, insane plotlines, and sometimes "real"
another good foreign film i'd recommend is the Infernal Affairs trilogy. I HIGHLY recommend that if you're into crime/mafia/drama movies. Very very suave and a very well written trilogy.

Napoleon Dynamite was produced and released by MTV. Hardly a "indie" film.

...crap., is the end of that sentence.
You wanna see good Japanese cinema? Watch a Kurosawa flick or a Kitano movie.
I remember we talked about this before.. silimar thread about what good movies there are to see...
- Casshern (real real hard to get into, watch it twice and if you dont like it then, fine)
- Heat (OMGBBQ)
- Once Upon a Time in the West
- Resevoir Dogs
- City of God (Var already mentioned it, but its worth mentioning again)
- Insomnia (both the original & the Chris Nolan remake)
- Any Kitano film, esp. Hanabi, kikujiro no natsumi & Kids Return (yes I am biased)
- Any Kurosawa movie, esp. Yojimbo, Seven Samurai & Kagemusha (roar!)
- Any Kevin Smith movie except for that stupid piece of shit Jersey Girl
- Every Godfather Movie (yes, even the third one)
- Apocalypse Now
- Blade Runner (Director Cut ONLY.. original is crap.)
- Leon
- 12 Monkeys
- The Thing (John Carpenter remake)
That should be enough to keep you busy.
Have fun

Indeed. Miike is, and always will be, pulp.
I recommend Odd Obsessions (aka Kagi) directed by Kon Ichikawa. An older, slightly twisted Japanese movie, and I second Millers Crossing and Blade Runner as well.
CaoBoY, you're the first person I've ever heard say anything good about Battle Royale 2.

Have to agree with Giant Robot...the Infernal Affairs series are good. Also try Police Story 2...it's Jackie Chan, but not the usual Jackie Chan 90 minute fight scene.
