There have been a few questions asked this week on how to do stuff with the forum, so I just wanted to point out the HELP (http://www.zilvia.net/f/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=Help;CODE=00) section.

I'd also like to repost from the main page

Chat section = General Discussion About The Nissan 240SX

Tech Talk = Technical Discussion About The Nissan 240SX

Events and Meet-Ups = Place for Everyone to Coordinate Events and Meet-ups

For Sale\Wanted\Group Buys = For Sale Items, Wanted Ads, and Group Buy's in Here

Archive and FAQs = Archives and Frequently Asked Questions about the 240SX are in here

Polls = Post All Polls in Here

Please put things in the appropriate forum and don't post the same thing in more than one forum as doing these gives the moderators unnessisary work to do.

For more conserns that don't need to be reposted here please check HERE (http://www.zilvia.net/f/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=8007)

Good job, DSC.  I notice that there are quite a few locked threads out there.  By cracking down like this, you mods will save our forum.

Thanks.

Not to be an ass, but can we get over this alrdy? Newbies will still do it, and you guys will still have to correct them. Hopefully after the first time their topic gets locked/moved/deleted or they'll get flamed for their stupidity, they'll learn or at least start thinking before posting.

And don't flame me for this, but honestly, the "we should do something about the forum" topics are appearing too often lately... just like the sr20det questions that everyone is sick and tired of...

Well...I'd say that this should fix some of the problems that you speak of, Kreator. &nbsp;Good job DSC, you should be a moderator! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

I don't think any of the members who have been here a while are sick of these...or atleast if they are sick of them, they see that they are nessesary. Just locking their threads isn't enough, they still don't understand. So I think its nessisary to give people new this board a heads up...those who cannot seem to find the tabs at the top for help or control pannel need to see this. And so do the people who don't clearly see what each forum is for.

Ok, i agree with what you are saying... It's just that these topics are poping up too often nowadays. Just write up something and ask west to pin it up on top of all forums. Cuz if the newbs aren't gonna read that, they prolly won't read this either.

well I've been after this topic for the whole time..and i think it's time for me to say something...
I've seen people post some stupid post..yes we see it.. read it
some of us ignore it but some of us post some stupid replt that not suppose to be on the forum and I don't understand why it hasn't been lock or delete..
&nbsp; well if it's &nbsp;not to much for me to ask..WHat is the purpose of having a site and try to limit ur self..ourself to just a few diffrerent things?? instead of "Chat room" forum &nbsp;why don't you guys change it to something else..so nobody post any stupid thing in it.
&nbsp; &nbsp;I see a lot of members here change into a NAZI mode and reply on a newbie post or post that not really concern'em or post that not involve 240sx with some stupid replies.

&nbsp;guess what the idea of me being a member of this site is that ppl here have the love of the car that we all love and care more than our jobs or house payment that we all put the work into the car countless hours..and to be here it's like having friends that understand what I'm talking about being with family..and if the idea of me or somebody else tell u a story of them self os ask a question or show u a picture that don't concern you and get stupid reply in return..I think that we all are destroying the spirit of the ppl who create this site..for all of us car lovers..

Loofee, I think I understood what you were trying to say, but your post was damn near incomprehensible. &nbsp;

At any rate, the idea of adding a new forum (such as off-topic) to the site isn't a bad one. &nbsp;Still, that's not the solution to the current problem. &nbsp;The current problem is that newer (and sometimes more veteran) members are posting topics that are not related to the forum being posted in, or even the 240sx in general.

DSC made a great post because he highlighted the definition of each forum and also recommended that new users use the help function to solve most of their forum related problems. &nbsp;This type of adherence to the designated forum area of discussion does not limit us to any specific topic, but instead teaches the members of zilvia.net more about their car (the 240sx), whether it be the history or how to get that extra .02 second on their 1/4 mile.

I don't think I'm alone when I say that Zilvia is one of the best 240sx forums on the web. &nbsp;It's the members here that make it my favorite, and it's the members job to keep Zilvia great.

I thought "Chat" meant chat. When you 'chat' with someone about a 'general' topic, you tend to get a little off track. When you get off track in a discussion with someone, noone jumps down your throat about it (well most desent people wouldn't). Now, I know that topics started shouldn't get waaay out of hand, like that one topic about 'why I hate birds', WTF was that? All I'm saying is that if you see a topic or post that's a little off topic, and it has no relevance to you, then just ignore it, and don't make a fool of yourself flaming the guy or gal. If you consistanly ignore someone that says stuff that doesn't matter, then sooner than you may think, they will see that they should put more thought into their posts.

And yes I agree with you DSC that posts should go in the appropriate forum.

IN ALL ACTUALLITY WE TRY TO IGNORE IT!

but it seems teh newbies are repling to newbies causeing the topic to just keep showing up on the first page at the top!

where did they all come from? are they scc subscribers? banned members from freshalloy? nico former members?

i dunno but having all these new topics started about stb's when one is a few topics down from it is unfucking called for. do you people think that you downt get an answer if you dont start your own topic?

then when people post a topic about a certain product like for ex a obx muffler then start a whole new topic about a arospeed muffler!

why in the hell are you doin this?!
all this unecessary bullshit is uncalled for and having the "veteran members" have to keep posting new topics to show people what not to do is getting outta hand. we did this once when the forum was updated and we have to do it a- fucking-gain!

some people act like its thier first time on the net. and yes i am mad and hate to see what direction its been going in the past weeks. west is working hard as hell in between the lil time he has most of the mods are busy at times and now im starting to feel like a mod commenting on the bs topics that get started! :!: &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crazy:'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sneaky.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':pissed:'>

I bet this topic will just go away far down the list of other topics to never be seen by new members of the forums, not saying its a bad idea to post something like this. &nbsp;I sit and wonder myself why people post the way they do when it is very clear when you look at the list of forums here, they tell exactly what each is for. &nbsp;To be honest with the number of people that register and visit here you can't expect it to be perfect and to be totaly honest until the search feture is fixed you are going to continue seeing repeat topics. &nbsp;

I think I will stop there since I will probably get flamed for being a "noob"..... &nbsp;

i was just searching through the forums...and came across this...i think it deserves a bump in case some people didn't get a chance to see it and also for the people who signed up after i left pg1...i think i'll add an idea also, i regards to the chat forum, below the link it does say "general chat about the 240sx", that should pretty much tell it all...if you want to participate in an off topic chat...there is usually a zilvia AIM chatroom established in the evenings, i'm sure dsc wouldn't mind if you sent him a private message asking him to add you to his invite list...heck his invites people he doesn't even know...LOL...if he minds...he'll probably post a reply or delete my post...in which case, *nods heads*

If you see something you don't like it's not like you can't PM a mod or click the little "report to moderator" button. &nbsp;This thread won't help any "noob" your just venting frustration. Just bear with it, they will catch on, and try not to pick on people just cause of there reg. date or number of posts.

PS- sucks we can't say "do a search" &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crazy:'>

A few things to address here...

Chat Room will be added soon provided the forum stays stable.

Search will be working again soon, I will have to take the forum down and completely rebuild it, so expect a downtime of 1-3 hours in the near future, maybe this evening.

Because you have X amount of posts doesn't make you any better or worse. I guarantee there are TONS of new members that know a hell of allot more then some of us "Veterans" as some of you stated it.

IMO I really don't want a Off Topic forum, its just a good way to split the forum into dif sections when we don't need to. You came here to talk about the 240sx, please keep it as closely related to that as you can. If you choose to start a Off Topic thread please state that it is off topic by putting it in the Topic Title. In your topic title just put OT: then your subject, People will evenly catch on and start doing this all the time. There will always be some off topic stuff that we can see relevant to the forum. But the worthless posts like a picture of killing cats or whatever is no good to anyone. If you want to post a funny picture then wait till Friday and post it under a topic called Friday Humor, it could be a weekly thing to look forward to.

My last and maybe most important concern would have to be the quality of posts and replies. If a post or reply takes you 30 seconds to think of and post, please ask yourself what good is this post going to do for the forum? Its the posts like people asking questions about a intake and not even saying what 240sx they drive or what intake system they are asking the question about that doesn't help anyone. Or replies that don't answer a question, but instead just get the topic to become off topic. The biggest problem is most posts have a reply to something someone posts and it has nothing to do with the original topic. So please keep the posts on the same topic it started from. Thanks!

Besides all this I think the forum is going very well, sure were going to have some things that wont make every one of you happy. If your not happy get a hold of a Mod or myself and we will take care of it. The forum is only as good as its people who support it so its up to everyone to keep the forum in a informative and fun environment.
