View Full Version : Weight reduction
Well a while back, I removed my spare tire, jack, that board over the spare, and my carpet/insulation from the trunk. Today I took out my back seat, passenger seat, and middle consoule thing (from ash tray back). Carpet is still in because I'm lazy but I got about 1/3 of the sound deading stuff from under and behind the where the back seat was. It feels/sounds soo cool now all striped makes me want to go race
Tomorrow I'll take out the drivers seat and maybe some of the middle consule and take the carpet out. Then start scraping away sound deading from there too. I probably won't finish tomorrow but I'll put just my drivers seat back in and drive around with it like that for a day or so that'll be fun.

Lemme know if you mess up the awesome weight distribution the 240 has. How bout that oversteer?

Umm, takeing all the weight from the back would actually cause Understeer not oversteer. I'm planning on putting the carpet and seats back (atleast passanger seat and rear seat bottom) I'm just striping it to take the sound deadening out. Fortionately, most of the sound deadening is in the middle or more fowards on the car. I think with the spare, jack, and sound deadening gone i should have dropped 40-50lbs. Noticable, but not really any big gains. Heh, really I just NEEDED to work on my car and I don't have any new parts...so weight reduction

IIRC, you lose 0.1 seconds for every 100lbs you lose. Is no A/C and no seats worth 0.04 seconds?

unless you actually race, in which case every bit of weight savings will help even more, unless you f*** up your weight bias that much that your car handles like sh**.

I have no idea how thats possable. The foor from your feet to the trunk is cold to the touch after a hard run. Only thing thats a tiny bit warm is right above the tranny.

I also pulled everything from the rear seats back. The thing that sucks is that now I can hear my gas swashing around back there
Also I got to drive my car in the rain today for the first time. OMG!!!! My ass was everywhere. Mainly it was my fault cause I was loving it.
Heh, i thought the gas swooshing around was cool. I'll prolly be driving my car with only 1 seat for the next week just cauz i'm not gona have a lot of time to scrape the sound deadening out. But like I said, all seats and carpet are going back in. I'm just droping the ~30lbs of sound deadening. I'll be weighing it (sound deadening) for an exact measurement after its all out to see just how much weight I lost.

I had my car completly stripped including the dash for about a week before I sent the car to the paint shop. I noticed it to be only slightly more peppy off the line. One thing I noticed was the noise, every little noise that is created when driving was heard as clear as a bell.
There seemed to be no real issues with weight distribution or anything like that!
I felt like I was in a drag car.

Yup. I think its comming from the middle of the car just in front of the rear wheels. Any idea what it is? I assumed it was a normal thing.
