Could someone please tell me about the fitting of 225/45/17 tires on 17 x 7? at the moment, i have some 17 x 7's with 215/45/17's on them.. if i were to put 225/45/17's on them.. how would they be?

they would be 10mm's wider - i don't think i would put a 225 on a 7" rim

So is a 225 too wide for a 7in wide rim? I was curious about this too, so i think i might just stick to 215.

I just had 225's on a 8inch and they where bulgin a bit, but they were 225/50/17 so they were a tad tall. Stick to 205's or get wider wheels.

they will work except they will have flexible sidewalls. If you take turns too fast you will feel ur tire jump  .

alright.. thanks.. isnt 215 fine though? i mean.. i've seen the majority of 7" wide wheels have 205 of 215's..

I have 7.5 I run 215. so 205 is perfectly fine.

The rule of thumb when it comes to tire width is you do not want to have your tires section width (225mm*1in/25.4mm=8.85in) to be much less than 80% of the wheel width (7"). In your case your at 79% (7/8.85*100%) which should be fine. So you can put 225s on your 7" wide rims without a problem.
Another thing to consider though is that your 225 are going to stick inward an extra 1/4" or so from the rim versus the 215s you got. Im willing to bet that your rims have a 40mm offset, and putting 225s on those rims will rub your front struts. You are gonna need at least a 35mm offset to clear. On the bright side the rears will fit fine.

i have coilovers.. that help? so if i were to put 225's on it.. would it matter? (other than people saying that i 'shouldn't)

im pretty sure you'll still rub. I would either buy a wider rim or atleast get spacers to make sure you clear your coilovers.

im pretty sure you'll still rub. I would either buy a wider rim with a lower offset or atleast get spacers to make sure you clear your coilovers.

215/45/17 is a perfect fit for a 7 inch wide rim... is there a reason why you want 225s on them?

I'm running 225/45/17 on 17X7's with no rubbing problems front or back on Eibachs and Tokicos. No wheel hop or sidewall flex that I've detected. Amazing traction though...

The only way to truly know is to measure the space between your existing (215) tyres and the coilovers. If there is less than 1/4" of clearance then 225's will rub.
PS:is there a reason why you want 225s on them? = Amazing traction though... :werd:

so there is better traction with 225 than 215? i have 5 mm spacers on my car.. just to add to that. and i need some new tires soon.. just wondering
