I heard that you could swap in a supra 6 speed tranny on a ka24de.
truth or B.S.
if so a web site showing how would be helpful.

where did you sutmble upon this tidbit of info?

even if it did work (unlikly) you would definately need a custom DS to get everything to work

Because it is highly unlikely that any sr would ever break that tranny. It is damn near bulletproof, over 700ftlbs to the tires and 3700 lbs cars and no breakage, now 400-550 lbft at the crank and 2700 lb car.... it would laugh it off.

My V160 (getrag 6speed from supra) is pretty damn bulletproof.

500rwhp beat on it for years, and it's like the day I got it.

Would be cool to install one in 240sx, but damn sounds pretty tough. Wonder how the tranny would bolt to the engine..

you'd have to somehow get the bellhousing attached to the supra tranny.

or have an adapter ring Machined for the trans like what is done on some drag motors to fit the sturdier auto transmissions (727 torqueflight ect) even then I wonder if the input shaft is the same dimension? IIRC the supra trans is longer too so you may have to move the shift lever back (notch the tunnel) to get it in not to mention you would need to get a trans mount to bolt onto it

and then if you did do this you would need to consider how it's gearing will affect the car. will you need a different ring gear for the diff?
how much will this cost?
would it have been a better idea to get the os giken hardened gear set or maybe the hks seq 6spd that all the falken drift cars use....
maybe, maybe not. im just speculaTING.

why...I'm still wondering why you'd want to do this. To handle the power? There are many sr tranny's that are handling high output numbers. I think the money needed to make this happen would be an absolute waste. If you're doing it to be different, I've got some things I'd like to buy, since you enjoy blowing money.

maybe he just heard it somewhere, and wanted to know if it was true or not?

There are a lot of people who have broken the sr tranny. If 300whp is a lot to you than yeah it will probably last forever. People have broken them with less though. It all depends on how you use the car. Most of the high hp cars you have probably heard of do not do things that sacrifice reliablilty. Most are dyno queens. Maybe they will last a couple months. Maybe they will last more. But if you use your car for drag and have a decent amount of power its not if its when.

I've got friends here running 400+ hp S14's with SR swaps and have yet to hear about tranny problems. It is about how you drive your car, as you metioned. If that's the case, then it's pointless to continue on with this. No matter how powerful your car is, if you rag it, it will take a dump on you eventually.

SR trannies break all the time. whether it be dragging or drifting. When you start to put bigger numbers down it's gonna happen. Look into the OS Giken stuff. Some guy on FA just did a comparison between the stock gears and input shaft and the OS stuff. OS giken might be a much cheaper alternative than getting a supra tranny mounted in there. After you upgrade the tranny, you might want to look into getting better axles but it is rarer for them to snap. OS giken official dealer in the US is www.enonvativforce.com

I'd rather have my axles be the weak point rather than the clutch, driveshaft or diff. Much cheaper, and easier to replace. LOL, and most come with lifetime warranties so you can keep swapping them out for free :)

why would you get a supra tranny which is so expensive, and try to spend more money to make it fit the ka, there are supras with auto chevy tranny's made to fit with adaptors.
