Will 245/40/17 's Kumho Ecsta's fit on a 17x7 wheel?

Yeah, but those tires might be a bit fat on the wheel. I'm running 205/55/14 on some 14x5.5" wheels... talk about sucked-in sidewalls! There comes a point where a tire too wide for a rim will give worse performance than a narrower tire that is more stable on the rim. Might want to look into 225s?

Only reason I run 205s on my skinny-arse wheels is because I don't have the money for wide wheels. The 14x5.5s are the factory wheels which now run race rubber.

Acording to the Tire Rack those tires need a 7.5 inch to 9 inch wheel with 8 inch being recommended. No it would not fit, and wouldn't be safe, and would have poor traction due to bowing in the side walls.

Actually, the sidewall height has a lot to do with how wide a tire you can run. Bigger sidewalls will allow a wider tire to be used with a given rim. So 245 tires might fit on some 7 inch wheels, but not a 40 series. You should probably look at running a 225/45.

Interesting. I have a similiar issue since I have set of 17x7 koenig villians that I want to run. The offset is 40mm so I know I will have to go with some spacers if I want a flush fit.

So your saying 225/45/17 is okay on this size rim? I called tire rack and they recommend 215/45/17 but I want a bit more "tire" so I can fill the fender well. I run kyb agx+prokit.

Tire rack is right - a 215 is the perfect size for a 7" wheel. 225 for 7.5" (although you can get it on a 7")

A 245 just ain't gonna work! The bead would be weak and the sidewalls would look horrible. Not good for performance or safety. Besides, with a 40 series tire, just try to find a shop that will mount something that wide on that rim! It may actually be impossible.

People say that the Kumho's are actually more skinny than regular tires and that wider tires (than normal) might fit. I have 215/40/17 on 17X7 wheels right now and it looks like a wider tire could go on but I'm not sure about 235 or 245?

for some freak incident of nature I have 225/60/15's on the stock 15X6 rims and these seem to be fine so what about 245 skinny Kumho's on a 17X7?

What part of "no" is so confusing?

These are Kumho's guidelines specific for that exact model and size of tire and they say it wont fit. 225/45 will give you the most traction possible with that wheel.

I think it's the "no" part.
I guess I just wanted somebody to say yeah you can do it but you're right probably with the 225's.

245 40s will fit on a 17x7 rim i have them on my car. I don't have any problems with them as far as handling they handle a lot better than stock rims and tires. Bulging out of the rim is not a problem, they stick out a little but nothing major. One of my friends also has a 240sx with 255 45s on 17x7 rims and he doesn't have problems either. I've had those tire on my car for about 8 months and never had a problem. There a bit worn out now and guess what, I'm putting 255s on.

225/60 series tires have HUGE sidewalls. You have a lot more to play with in that case (and a lot more instability for performance). If you +2 the rims, you are going to be cutting down that height which reduces your margin of error and increases the rigidity of the sidewall...

but whatever, it is clear that the widest tire is best... regardless of how well it is capable of performing I give up!

I have 225/60/15's on the rear only. However, this is a temporary thing. I'm waiting on my summer rims to be fixed.

I have seen it done on a 7" rim. It didn't look quite right. The side wall looked as distored (buldged out something fierce).
He said it performed well though with no roll.

Why push it guys, Just spent the $$$ and run the right stuff

Do 245/40/17 on some nice 17/8 race wheels

Or Even 255/40or35/17 on some nice 17/8.5 to 9 race wheels

I know people dont have $$$ to blow on everything, But dont skimp on the important stuff like Wheels....

In my case it's not the $, its that I love my wheels so much I do not want any other style and they are only made in 17X7 and 18X7.
