ok....i got my first car like 2 or 3 weeks ago...i forget...i got it for 350 dollars. its a 89 240sx coupe. i have had this problem with the engine ever since i got it but i dont really car cuz im going to prolly get a CA18det.
white smoke flows out of the exhaust...when i checked the oil...steam came out of the oil cap. i checked the coolant level and it was dry so i fulled it up and started the car. five min later the rad was bone dry again...

im thinking that the lower timing chain guide broke, letting the chain hit the rad hose, putting a hole in it and letting coolant run into the oil pan...or the engine...

could it be something else? if so please help me....i want to fix this engine and make it last till i get the CA18 (a year or so)

headgasket, is there oil in the coolant?

do a compression test to see if the gasket is blown

That is steam and you know what that means if coolant os gone and you see steam. Is the smell out of the exhaust sweet?

coolant burning!
at least head gasket is blown, if not more and the head cracked.

the engine has 93,*** miles on it..so i dont think the head is cracked...im planning on replacing the headgasket and all the seals that go with it....but i dont think a crack would make the coolant drain that fast.

if you would like to see some pics of the car i could post them up...

the engine is blown my friend. It is either the gasket or the rings have lost compression. Go to the store and get a compression tester for $15 and check for yourself. If coolent is not leaking from the bottem of the car, its going into the engine....therefore causing a Maple syrup smell. Coolant leaking into your engine is bad. Rebuilt the KA or buy an SR.... those are your options.

Yeah the timing chain guide could be the problem, I have seen multiple front engine covers that are ruined. Is there coolant in your oil? Just because the engine only has 93,xxxmiles on it means nothing. You said it ran out of coolant, it has most likely been warped, aluminum just can't handle that.

You are burning coolant that is what the white smoke is so it is either, HG, cracked head or cracked block...So it is time to tear the engine down and find out what the problem is or get a new engine...

I just noticed your local. Go to Sound Performance in Bloomingdale if you want a definate answer. If it is blown, just spend $500 for a new KA.

just put some coolant clogger .. dont know how its called but its supposed to seal the headgasket .. its a bandaid solution but it could work..

and if you think your gonna be out of trouble with an engine swap, youre wrong.. My swap didnt make any problem but i consider myself lucky that my engine was in great shape ...

if it's the same stuff i think you're talking about. called stop leak or something like that. HELLLLL NO clogs everything up, water pump, rad, thermostat, everything.
