I am almost ready to begin my KA buildup (t minus 3 weeks) and might try to find another KA to work on rather than the one inside my car. I'm questioning weather to get an s13 or s14 KA. I am aware that there are differences in the cams, and pistons, but I will be running aria pistons and s13 cams so that wont matter. Aside from these differences, is there any reason for me to chose a long block s14 over a longblock s13? The built motor will be going into my 96 240.

Thanks all

-Mike

NO.........personally i dont think a s13 ka24de or a s14 ka24de is any different...for buildup purposes.. so get what u can for cheap.. and do what u gotta do...

Same same. Stick with S13 cuz its an easier to source car in junkyards.

What are you building the engine for. I am currently building a KA24E that is going to be turboed. What I want to know is what kind of head work are you doing, if any, it seems that no one really does any headwork. If you are interested you can get a Port & Polish kit for 60$ and SI Valves has some really good valves and valve guides, I am currently using them.

check to see is SOHC head internals are swappable. I know essentially the rods and pistons are the same. more people don't P&P because it costs too much to do something for maybe 2-10HP when that cash can go towards a turbo system. more people just turbo the KA initially before they start building up the head, besides just run a stock head and get another head worked on, less downtime and always nice to have spares.

Yeah I got another engine so I am building that up. The port and polish I am doing myself, all you need is a die grinder and the P&P kit which is $60. A lot of horsepower can be gained from head work. More like 20hp...But the P&P can take up to 12 hours to do right, it also helps reduce carbon buildup and in my opinion is well worth the 12 hours labour..But to each his own.
