my maf went out so im in slug mode and the idle is terrible...im looking for used mafs, so in the mean time what can i do to "fix" mine? i was told that you can clean a maf by submerging it in a bag of alcohol. anybody done this? any other ways to make it operate better? of couse this is just temporary, i dont expect it to work that well or last that long...but enough to last me until i get a used one...i dont wanna be a sluggish civic anymore :wtc:

Shoot some electrical cleaner on the element. I wouldnt submerge a MAF in anything but thats just me.

Do not put the MAF sensor into a bag of alcohol. A friend told me to try that and I ruined the sensor. You want to clean just the wire element, submerging the whole thing probably shorted it out.

I think a lot of people did pretty good with a electrical contact cleaner to clean the MAF. CARB cleaner is ok too I've heard.

I would do the electrical contact cleaner. I just replaced mine yesterday and I hope that I am done with that for awhile...what a headache :smash: I used brake cleaner at first or several times and I believe that that is what killed mine. Carb cleaner is ok too. I figure, just buy the electrical cleaner and be safe instead of having to keep replacing the stupid and sensitive maf :rl::whip:

Carb cleaner is to harsh, I wouldnt use it. Just whatever you do DONT touch the sensor wire dealys in anyway

Yeah, I searched for a while on this topic when I needed to clean mine. A few people said carb cleaner is OK, more people said it was NOT. I'd never take a chance, so don't use the carb cleaner. Use some Contact Cleaner, just spray the wire element really good and let it sit for a little bit. It will dry quickly.

i ended up using the eletronics duster, worked really well...man there was HELLA shit on my maf! runs a little better i guess, still messed up though...the screen is pitch black with dust embedded. the crap i was just referring to was loose!..man. need a maf. need a maf. need a maf.

edit: do you think there is anyway to clean the screen without messing it up? the black stuff looks like it could be easily dissolved...just trying to save a couple of bux... :x:
