Silvias only came as coupes. JDM fastbacks are known as 180SX's and look just like our fastbacks. Putting the Silvia front end on a fastback creates what's known as a Sil-eighty.

also, I've amost always seen it done on fastbacks here in the US...as it seems like 2/3 240's are fastbacks.

To Lance and 240 u listen!
Like Yoda I sound... heh, wow, I"m drunk...
anywayz... I have a hard time taking your post seriously... that's not a flame, just that your question is very vague.
What is your definition of "better"?
do the conversion to a CRX... yeah
coupes are lighter and i drive one, so that's what you want cause u wanna be like me...
i cant afford to do the conversion but i would only do it to a coupe, then again Lee's fastback with the conversion in the sd meet vid is mighty sweet, so in the end you gotta make your own decision

Lance. . .
Did I mention yet that I want to have your car's children?
How can you wanta sil-80 after looking at a 240sx as sexy as Lance's?
Well the coupe is lighter and said to have a more rigid structure, so it would be better in the name of performance to get the coupe...however I think fastbacks look better/more sporty.
BTW, bing is talking about THIS (http://www.steamymirror.com/dsc240sx/images/crxsilvia.jpg) awful car

very interesting scoop on the roof, does that actually suck air in to the cockpit or anything....hmm maybe i could make some more head room for myself w/ something like that. being 6'7" has it's disadvantages for sure. yes that is a very nice car but i think i found a coup w/ a blown engine for 600 bucks, if it the deal goes through i will be a happy man
oh and for those of you who have bought front clips do you have any recomendations as to what shop to buy from and how much did you guys pay. i found a shop selling complete front clips for 1600 but hmm that almost seems TOO cheap.

coupe. it looks so sexy with that conversion. on the fastback, in my opinion (note the opinion part) it looks like it doesn't belong there...at all. i've seen very few actual sil-80's that looked ok with that front end, but they had also had nice wheels and body kit to help restore the 'flow' of the car. hard to explain kinda like 180SX lights on a stock looking 240SX doesn't look any better to me, but with a decent looking body kit, they look great.

In the words of Notorious B.I.G.
Gimme da coupe, gimme da coupe, imma bad boy
for those who have no ide what I am talking about, Biggie has a song thats called gimme the loot and i juss changed loot to coupe.
anyway the coupe looks so much better with silvia conversion, but the some sil-80s look nice though.

This is how I see it:
240sx coupes have a round ass and square end, causing them to be, well, ugly. (Onevia- a silvia with a 180sx front, is getting rather popular in Japan)
180sx/240sx hatch have the round ass and end, though I think they look good either with a silvia front or nice body kit (please, not a GTR STYLE fucking body kit, but a nice bomex, ikeya, etc)
If I had the money to do a conversion, I would do it on a coupe in my opinion, because the square front and end are just made for eachother.
