i have two advan SAR3s that need to be straightened. im looking at buying a set of enkei RP-F1 that has one wheel that needs repairing.
at first, i knew i was going to repair the advans, when i had the time and need for them. but now, im not sure. i had a thread that asked about repairing wheels and everybody that responded didnt make a point of it being wrong. i was on my girls 350 forum and they seem to shun ppl who think about repairing wheels. "fuggit, dont be stupid and buy another 19" sf challenge." as we all know, money is a lot more tight around zilvia than there. so i have some questions and need advice...

-is it really that bad? i mean of course its never going to be the same, but...
-do the repairs last long under commuting, spirited driving, and occasional track events?
-is the finish the same afterwards?
-is it a really bad idea to repair forged wheels?
-advan and enkei have very special processes when making their wheels (esp. RP-F1), so is it a good idea to have a mass production repair shop apply such universal practices?
-would it be classified as hazardous? if i do repair, should i expect the wheel(s) to give out at any minute? :tweak:

and now, totally different questions of my own

-are z guys really that rich?
-are they right or are they pansys that are afraid of any imperfections in their cars?

and finally, are z guys really that rich? thanks for any input or advice...

unfortunately, they are, and most of them are complete wusses.
as far as the wheels, I'm not sure :-\

I took my wheels to be repaired by a wheel shop. They told me it won't be like it's a new rim, but rather restore it so it's tolerable for driving, no more bumpin and bouncin.

since when does owning a 30K sports car make you rich? sure its a nice car and pretty expensive but anybody making a good living without a ton of bills can afford that car... now... a brand new viper or Z06? start doubling the price and you can start talkin about the big boys.

It won't be the same as new, but it will look like new when they're done (if they do a good job) and strong enough for you to drive on definitely. The weight may not be the same and the uniformity of the wheel might be off but not stuff you'd notice normally.

350Z owners arent rich... they just dont dent rims enough to need them repaired!

what i meant is that when they are presented with a problem such as bending/denting a rim, they automatically think of replacing it. for my poor student ass, i would think about straightening it ten times before thinking about replacing. a couple of guys said that they rather pay $300-700 for a new rim than to pay $150. i know its never going to feel the same and its chancing it, but $550 difference? i dont have the money to get 19" sf challenges, let alone replacing a bent one...

so, are they right? or should straightened wheels be cool?

I had some SA3R's and had them straightened. The guy did a great job, even though he couldn't completely straighten them he got them to about 90% which was enough to be barely noticable when driving. Before they were straightened they were not driveable... now you can barely notice. Drifted on them/ beat the crap outta them for a year... I say do it.
