I was driving with my bud down in riverside when this echo lines up by me. it was an old friend from high school with his girl, and he kept revving at me and i knew i had to embarrass him in front of his girl. So the light turns green, i get a pretty crappy start but i'm not worried. We hit second and his Echo lets out the biggest chirp i've ever heard, and starts PULLING away...hes up to a car length when i hit 3rd, and the pulling stops...finally from 3rd to 4th i pull by and wave....WTF!!! I almost lost to an ECHO!!!! I hit 105 when i hit the flashers, by then i was ahead about 2 lengths, but still....
BTW I have exhaust, intake....the echo was 2001 stock...

I swear, if I hear any more stories of our cars nearly losing or losing to an echo, I'm selling my s14.

echo.... do you need glasses? J/K
Did you hear a turbo? You never know these days. That scares me though, to think im putting all my time and money into my suspension so I can setup the perfect drifter, then turn around and get smoked by an echo in the 1/4 mile.
Looks like I better get a few engine mods.

When will those echo drivers stop picking on us?

actually, you shouldn't feel bad at all. he probably did have nitrous, or turbo. I'd put my money on nitrous....I can't believe that there would be a turbo kit for the echo, and a custom turbo kit would be way too much for any stupid idiot to spend for an echo...I'd rather buy a metro and turbo it.
anyways, besides the HP...it's all about gearing. I mean, have you ever driven in a low HP car, but for some reason it suprises you and you think, dang, this car moves okay....sure until you get to 4th gear and are doing 55-60. on my old escort, I felt fine up to 40-45mph, I swear, trying to go uphill in 5th gear at 60 or 65mph...
I'd like to see what the max speed on a lot of cars are...cause I know for certain that some max out at 100-110...heck, it seemed like I never had the time or length of road to take my escort past 95-100....where as now with my 92 240, it takes less the 30 seconds to get to 5th...and on mine, 5th shifts around 110-115 depending on if I have my CAI on or not. In fact, if I run a 15.3 at 83mph...that means I'd max my car out by 30seconds..some cars, after like 2-3 minutes, you're still only at 90. LOL
so anyways, to sum up my ramblings...try to follow this guy to a highway, then see <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'>
(disclaimer-of course, this is on a closed track, using a professional driver) I don't want to promote any streetracing <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/lookaround.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':look:'>
there is an echo around here that works at canadian tire, he has 17" rims dual tip exhaust, lowered (i think) he's red with black decals down the drivers side...
APEX is one of them, ther is at least 7 of the stickers there...
spoonae and i were at the intersection exiting canadain tire when he squeled the tires turning in to the lot...
yay, you can chirp them while turning...
i'd kick his ass in a race, even if i were driving a car

Echos are pretty quick from what I hear...
I suppose it's a good thing for most people, but also a bad thing for those of us with older sports cars, that engines are being made more and more powerful for their size and weight. Most modern cars can beat our NA sports cars from 10-15 years ago. Heck, a Saturn station wagon and Chevy full size truck will beat my MR2 in the 1/4 mile by a fair margin! And then you have your 'ordinary' family sedan like the Altima that does the 1/4 in mid-14s (I think?). Crazy. But I like it that most vehicles are pretty powerful now.
uh... what's an echo? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

I heard that 240's governed out at 118?(s14) -- I wanted to know if that was true since I have gotten mine up past 130.... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> Anyways-- if you people wanna see my car *sniff *sniff... its here <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> My Car (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1817980722)
ok- someone let me though, I'm curious to know if my governor isn't working or if there ever was one! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/notify.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':notify:'>

ok.. I think I've said this about a million times now..
no big deal though.
Automatics are not SPEED limited. They are REV limited
5-Speeds, and speed & rev limited.

I thought the speed limiter was there because the stock tires are T(?) rated so it's cuts off at 118mph. That doesn't make any since to not have a speed limiter just because it's an auto. But I don't know, it still doesn't change the fact that I'd rather have a 5-speed.
Anyway, about racing an Echo...
I just can't see myself having trouble with one of those. I mean just tonight I came into a run-in with a 5.0 mustang, and he beat me obviously, but still, I kept up pretty well, he wasn't walking away too quickly.
Oh yeah, what 240sxtreme said about street racing <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
