get the newest sport compact car (i love that mag) off of a news stand...it's the one w/ the drifting red 14 on front.....it has a pretty big story on how to make an s13 silvia for under 3 large....it has a table that tells ALL about every version of the sr20 engine that has been in the silvias (red tops, black tops and all the slight variants from year to year including power and torque) it's VERY useful

here is a link to the part online
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/archives/tech/tech01b_0502.shtml
it is at the bottom
Search around in Unstable-hybrids (http://www.unstable-hybrids.com) they have the differences in there somewhere, as well as an FAQ and some good info on other nissan engines as well.

the red top was in the 180sx and early silvias
the blacktop was in the later silvias (94-96 )

ok now... whice can fit into a 240sx '89-94 model
with out modifying much...
I don't understand why you all are guessing when I linked to a site with info on all that! Incase it was too hard to browse around here's (http://www.unstable-hybrids.com/sr20detFAQ.html) a direct link.
darklude, most people get the redtop because it is the cheapest and for the ammount of money to get one of the newer higherpowered SR20's, you could have made your redtop even faster. But, the newer ones usually have less miles, so its a tradeoff.
So check out the FAQ I linked to above and let us know if you have any more questions or e-mail unstable-hybrids.
Edit: SRSwap.com (http://www.srswap.com) also has an FAQ.

ok... i checked out both sites... but i still couldn't find out if i can fit others into a 240sx..
i found out that i can fit the s13 and s14 sr motors... but will i be able to fit the s15 sr20det w/ the 6spd tranny?
All 3 engines are the same size except for the turbo itself. I know for sure the s13 and s14SR fit in an s13 and s13, s14, and s15sr with 5 or 6 speed tranny will fit in an s14. So I would assume you could fit an s15sr into an s13. I don't see why there would be any special fabrication to make it fit. Only problem I see would be sensors and wireing maybe a bit tough putting and s15 in an s13. I don't think anybody on this board has put an s15sr into an s13 so the only way to get a 100% correct answer would be to e-mail unstable or srswap. But untill then you have my 99% sure guess

Hey its probably better for you to get an S13 red top ( any one without the bulge in the valve cover). Reason: Easier to work with (yes physically it will fit in the car the same) but wiring on the motors with the variable valve is a bit more tedious and the vvti valve train isn't as strong as the earlier ones. Better to get a red top and turn up the boost + its cheaper.
