SCC updated thier website with the articles on the 240 and stuff, here are links:
Hybrid How-To: SR powered 240 for under $3K (http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/archives/tech/tech01_0502.shtml)
My personal favorite article, a Lotus Elise faster than a Mustang Cobra (http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/archives/features/feature02_0502.shtml)

there is no way you can do an SR swap for under $3k nowadays.
the guys off velocity are just flaming SCC for that dumb article.

Not true, if you run a 100% stock Red Top SR, it's easy to get it done for under $3K.

hehe, i typed out that whole fucking article in the TechTalk for u guys the day the mag came out.
And btw...the stock elise wouldn't be faster...it has a b18c5 Integra Type R engine in it with a few mods (exhaust ect) about 200 to the rearwheels.

Please don't flame SCC. Name one other import magazine that offers the same amount of volume in the technical area. Swaps, engine mechanics (the "Suck, Squish, Bang, Blow" series), etc. If SCC features a turbocharged car, they'll probably tell you all of the specs on the car if they know them i.e. turbo specs a/r ratios, trim #'s, compression ratios, etc. If Stuper Street features a turbo car, they'll make sure to get a good camera shot of that beautiful momo shift knob. The article was good, long, informative, and probably motivated some people out there to tune their 240sx's instead of ricing them out. Props to SCC.

u are absolutely right, when SCC features a car they actually talk about the engine and how the engien got to where it is at, in SS they talk about where the body kits and the interior came from. I love SCC i got a stack of em in my room. SO don't bash em cuz of an article

I highly respect SCC, chock full of info, and I love the Suck, Squish, Bang series.
The funniest part in the whole magazine:
"How does Top Secret make a Supra go fast? Stick a Nissan engine in it, of course." -- Tokyo Auto Salon section.

SR swap under $3000 is completely possible, given that the engine is a fairly high mileage redtop, and completely stock.

An Elise Sport 190 is 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, thats definately quicker than a Mustang Cobra. In fact, add to that the fact that it does a shalom 70+ mph, with no PS or ABS and you begin to see the true side of this car. Its simply unbelievable.

i think it's pretty tough to argue that there is a better import magazine than SCC. about that whole SR swap thing, i'm sure SCC has plenty of contacts everywhere, and that shops give them good deals because they know of the potential business. So that could be one reason they do it for uner 3k, them getting parts cheaper than the rest of us. I really really doubt that SCC would lie.
as for backordering, you can do it through their website
the elise I can TOTALLY see "opening a can of whoopass" on a cobra. Cobras are fast in a straight line, but are also heavy and, well, a word I'd use is "clunky". Bumbling, stiff...
the elise... well, just because you don't know what it is (and because it uses a honda engine: nothing wrong there) doesnt mean it can't beat you.
Lotuses are crazy. I'd take an esprit over a 240 any day... though it'd take quite a bit of convincing for me to take it over a GTR or FD3S.

He's talking about the run of the mill elise, not a special edition elise that only a few thousand were made of.

Im sure you could pull the swap off for 3k if you have a decent amount of contacts. I just wonder if they included the price of shipping in that 3k price. Also I wouldnt recommend setting your goal on just 3k cause like most of use we dont have the equipment to say "OOO what we will just do the clutch and flywheel later." Bah.
I still think it was a very good issue and I am also a subscriber cause their mag is very informational. Also I would agree a stock elise would probably not be a Mustang cobra but I pretty damn sure it would smoke a stock 6cyl girly mustang Since neither one of those cars were what we would call stock and I think it was a fair fight
