Removing Aerial

Does anyone know how to remove the aerial off a 1992 Nissan 240sx? I am in the process of fitting my 30mm rear fenders, and the aerial need to go. I have undone the 3 screws on the inside of the hatch holding the motor on, but it don't know how to remove the top portion in order to slide it out. I am basically at a standstill till I can figure this out, but I don't want to damage it trying. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

The whole antenna can be unscrewed, along with the chrome ring ontop of the base.

Yes, I mean the antenna. I'm from Australia, so I guess we use different terminology.... lol. So how did you remove it Smog_Tech, just get some pointy nose plyers and twist off or what?? Mine is on a Hatch also by the way, don't know if that makes any difference? If I were to remove the "antenna" also, what could I use instead that isn't as obvious?

Well I deced to take some plyers to it and twisted to top part off. It's to the point where I have slid it up a fair way after twisting it off the thread, but it won't slide all the way out. Something is stopping it. Any ideas?

Needle nose or snap ring pliers remove the chrome retaining nut, two bolts in the bottom, then pull down and unplug. Literally 20 seconds worth of light work.

How do I remove the top chrome ring. I know there are two little notches that allow a pair of pointy nose plyers to grab hold of, but I can't seem to twist it loose??? Am I doing this right or have I done it all wrong? I am afraid I am going to crush the tube while gripping it in order to remove this top portion.

The ring is already off. Pull it off the mast, push the mast back in, and remove the assembly.

I finally got it off, i just took a spanner and kept hamering at that top part till it popped off. It will only be a 1 min job next time i remove it. Thanks for ur help.
