Hey, I tried searchin, but didn't come up with anything..
I'm thinking bout making my own intercooler piping, but I was wondering if it is necessary to make or roll a lip on the piping where the couplers attatch? I've heard of cases where the couplers blow off under hard boost but wasn't sure if this was common on the SRs.
If this is necessary, what's the best way to make a lip on the piping? thanks..

Not nesesary, at least you use silicone hooses and not much boost up to 1.5 kg/cm will be ok

What you need is a bead roller. Most that I have seen cost around $250. If you dont want to roll them use the adhesive stuff for dirt bike grips. That should keep them on pretty good. Oh yeah, dont skimp, use t-bolt clamps too. www.turbohoses.com in Dublin has the clamps, piping, hoses, and does bead rolling.

Im was thinking of welding a small bead around the pipe but Im in fear of creating pockets between the coupler and pipe that would prohibit nice airflow between pipe sections. You think silicone couplers are flexible enought to stay snug against the pipe AND go over a weld?

If you don't roll the lip the pipes will work there way loose with the movement of the engine.

I'm also having a hard time trying to figure out a good deal on peiceing together my own piping.

Thanks for those tips guys.. maybe I'll try that adhesive stuff you're talking about with good clamps. I plan to run around 20psi though, but that should hopefully keep it on.

Dont get me wrong on this at all.
I just am tired of hearing about people complaining that worm gear clamps are piece of shit. I personally use worm gear clamps every single day of my life for work. I work with water piping and we use worm gear clamps to hold back no less than 50psi of water pressure. There is no doubt a better holding power with T-Bolt clamps (and im not saying they are not better ether), but i would like to let everybody know there is different kinds of worm gear clamps too. The one's that you buy at Home Depot and all the other stores are SHIT! Usually the 5/16 size are the worst, the 3/8 head size are alot better and dont usually break.

you NEED a bead. If you dont have a bead either rolled or welded the intercooler piping WILL pop off at some point. Eventually a bit of oil residue builds up in the piping and with the pressure from the throttle plate closing (just before the bov opens) or compressor surge if you have a shitty bov, eventually a pipe will start coming loose. Once it moves from its original spot it wont be long before it pops off entirely. If you cant roll your own bead then just laying weld around and grinding it / filing it works great.

I put little welds about an inch long on either side of the pipe, i dont go all around, basically all you need is a raised portion of weld on either side of the pipe to stop it from sliding off.
The silicon coupling gets clamped on the inside of the weld so it will seal after the weld, the weld will just prevent the silicon from sliding off.
If you dont have a welder or bead roller, take a pair of pliers and bend the edge of the pipe up a bit. That will work too.

Bending the edges seems like it would cut into the coupler when you try to put it on.

use heavy duty radiator hose from NAPA or a truck supply place. also, spray hair spray inside the coupler and when it gets hot then dries, will help it hold on. t-bolt clamps are almost a nessecity.
